Hi all...I'm new and need Help!

Hi folks,
I just bought a 87 Nisssan Pulsar NX SOHC. It seemed like a decent car till I did a compression test. I have 135psi comp in first three cylinders 40-60 in the last one. Did a wet comp. test and it came up to 110psi. Appears to be bad compression rings. Car still runs like a top but at high RPM's blows oil into the air box. There is far to much blow by for it to vent. So....... time to rebuild. I have found a replacement fot it that has 160-170psi on all cylinders. I figure I pick this one up replace the one I have and rebuild my old one. I am wondering what type of mods could be done to improve this motor overall.

Here are the number off my car's ID plates.

e16i motor
33M head
Then I seen these number on motor tag

Just wanted some education. What ar the weeknesses and stregths of these cars. What should I be lookin for..
Thanks in Advance
Tyler

first of all, search button is your friend. There is alot you can read about on the forums here. Second of all, depending on what kind of performance you want you might want to get something other than another E16i. Thirdly, get a 5speed

I have an 87 Pulsar with the E16i and I had a similar problem. When I tore it down to rebuild, what I found was that the rings are stuck in the grooves of the piston. The cylinders showed very little wear so I assume the rings weren't worn either. Somebody out there makes some stuff you pour into the cylinders and let it sit and it should take care of this (GM maybe??) so ask the guys at Nissan or the local parts places. It's a lot cheaper than rebuilding, although it may take a few applications.

The '87-'90 Pulsars are the N13 body; the RL3F01A FD37 refers to the automatic 3-speed ya got. The last 6 digints of the VIN say you have the 4,482nd Pulsar made for the '87 year. Nissan begins production in September for the year ahead.

Weaknesses are: The headlight switch and the wiper delay module. Everything else seems to be a strength.

My '87 Pulsar NX E16i was a 3-speed auto as well, until the tranny died; Then I put in an RS5F31A 5-speed. Salvaged clutch cable/pedal assembly (Get everything, even the bracket it pivots on!), brake pedal (You're gonna need it!), entire shift linkage, manual transaxle mount cradle (It bolts to the left side of engine bay on the frame: ESSENTIAL! Auto tranny cradle won't work). I put a new wire in from the ignition switch to the solenoid and that's that. The car performs much better. Best of luck!
