I thought my car had blown another head gasket, cause of brown stuff in the radiator cap, overheating, and some oil leaks where there used to be coolant leaks. Anywhat...
Oil is coming from rocker cover. Brown stuff in radiatoor cap was muck.
Compression and leak downs came back AOK. Had a radiator/cooling system flush yesterday, and my mechanic said it took as much flushing stuff as a diesel truck. Yowzer.
Now instead of overheating the needle barely moves. It jsut won't budge, and then it moves just tocuhing the line. I've had everything replaced. Any ideas? I am stumped.
Also my car won't fast idle at startup. It always idles low, and I can't coax it up for love or money. Where to start, there's no sticky on weird idle like there is on SR's, and CA info is scarce and vague.
Did you ever install a thermostat? I seem to remember you taking it out back when you were having overheating problems.
Brown stuff in radiator is bad. Oil getting in somewhere....keep checking on it.
Sounds alot like a bad water temp sensor or bad connection. ECU would not be getting cold signal to initiate cold idle, also gauge would not respond to temp changes.

Hey Bennitto, I was checking out your homepage and it says your CA has VLSD, I'm very interested in where you got this info. Sorry I couldn't help you with your problem.
I have had everything in cooling system replaced. Radiator, rad. hoses, water pump, thermostat, fan temp sensor,
Brown stuff in the radiator wasn't oil according to my guy. Truthfully it was more like dirt. Especially when he pulled out a huge gob.
I jsut had the metal cooling pipe on th eback of the engine block replaced with a shiny new one. The old one may have left a legacy of garbage.
All my fuses are good.
I am thinking it's the engine temp. sensor on the intake manifold. ??? Will keep checking over the weekend...
First I noticed the VLSD while driving, then a guy in Joe'berg who had one confirmed it for me. Then boost_boy also confirmed it.
Haynes 1378 page 13;78 "The manual transmission fitted to the CA18DE engine is of type RS5F50A or RS5F50V the former having a standard and the latter having a limited slip differential."

Hey B,
Your fast idle issues should be directed at your air regulator valve which is the greyish looking part close to your f/p regulator and attached to the passenger side of the intake manifold. When it goes bad, it screws up driveability especially during cold starts. As for your temperature issues, the CA18 series have notoriety for killing their temperature sending unit which is next to the water temperature sensor. My cars have done that all too many times where you think the car is running really cool, but in reality it's really hotter than it says. Change it and your problem should be resolved. And yes, CA information is vague, but there is a whole community of CA18 people on another forum: http://www.********.com/forums/forum...s=&forumid=126 that is more than willing to help you with some of your issues.
Dee

So how can you tell from visually inspection that you have a viscous lsd or not? I checked my tranny and the only numbers on it are 85M15.

Any word on where(country, region?) the 50V was used?
well, Mitchell lists it, so it must have been in the states. Which car i have no idea. Stanza used 50A with the CA20E, as far as I know neither of my wagons have LSD...but i've never tested. i know you guys will ask me so i'll go check ...lemme get my shoes on.
Ok...didn't take as long as i thought it would. The plate says its a 50A and i know from experience it does good one wheeled burn outs and with 4wd it did occasional 2 wheel chirp (thats hard on her though)

The reason I was asking is because my tranny is JDM. There's no plate on it, just 85M15 painted on the top.

my bad, i can't keep up with who has what. Bluebird or Primera, both almost same thing, both I think had lsd option. I know bluebird did cause along time ago i did alot of research for stanza ideas that never happened. There is one way to find out...jack the front end a spin a wheel with your hand.
