Hey guys, I just made the big switch from honda's to nissan's. The problem is... My knowledge is limited in nissan's. I recently bought a '87 Nissan Pulsar for $200 and the motor has 199,500 miles on it. I was looking around for other motor options but there isnt much help on google. :/ I found a CA16DE from nippon-motors but that doesnt come with a tranny and I dont know how their service is. If you guys could help me out I'd appreciate it. What motors will directly bolt into my pulsar? Thanks guys.

is it an SE or XE? the e16s, e16i, e15et, ga16i, ca16de, ca18de, ca18det will all go into ur car without modifying engine mounts or body work. on most u will have to replace the wiring harness and on some(ca18 series) the clutch assembly.

Sorry if I sound stupid.. but what is the difference between a SE or XE. I'm not even sure which I have... this car was junked.. I still have to go to the dmv to get the pink slip for it. lol.
If you still have an engine in there, look at the valve covers, RED = SE, anything else is XE, that's the only way I know how to tell the difference quickly.

Do you know of any places that I can buy these motors from? Every place that I find dont have the trannys for them either. :/

Typically, the importers only mostly bring in engines w/ cut harnesses, but if you check around hard enough, you do find one with a complete harness and sometimes a tranny from time to time. If I had your car, I'd be looking to source a CA18DET. They usually run hundreds cheaper than an SR20DET and have plenty of potential to be exploited. You can also look around for a CA16DE with trans (not too hard to find, just look for someone who's done an SR20 swap and scoop up their old stuff cheap) and then boost it. Either way, you'll have a pretty interesting ride that could be one hell of a sleeper.
I wish you luck on your build-up.

Ok, you've got the E16i with Throttle Body Injection, nice little reliable beater. I don't know many places where you could easily get ahold of any of these engines, except a salvage. The E-series can be found in '88 and earlier sentra's and pulsar's, the GA16i is in the '89-'90 pulsar XE and sentra, the GA16de is found in sentras and pulsars after '90(if I remember correctly, I don't know alot about the GA's), the CA16DE is in the '87 pulsar SE, the CA18de is in the '88-'90 pulsar SE(I'm not sure about the '89-'90 SE, someone confirm??), the CA18DET i$ from over$ea$ and i$ a little harder to get ahold of but i$ definitely obtainable, these can come from several cars of which I'm not sure of yet, the CA18ET I believe is canadian, not sure what car.

CA18ET was found in the 200sx in the states, and a tranny from the CA20E stanza would easily hold its power. Once you get into the big boys of CA engines you're looking at some rare modifications that some ppl dont go through the hassle of.....and you are also looking at some awesome power potential. I'll admit i'm very biased...I love CA engines (except CA16 doesn't impress me at all). If you have the money and mechanical skills you could make a CA20DET...search the forum for it we've talked about it before. As for what is best...that depends on what you want and are willing to do....

BTW, congratulations on finally making the smart decision of discovering nissan's ability over honda

There's a 2.0 liter stroker kit for the CA18! Oh yeah, Boost_boy says he's aiming for 700hp with his CA! That's gonna be crazy.
Click Me!!! then go to 200SX/S13 and then on the left go down to ND Conversions, and number in the listed products there are the horsepower figures...and you always know you can do more than that: bigger turbo; nitrous; better intercooling etc.
they also have the stroker kit available and complete engines available. For like 2k british pounds you can get a CA18DET thats good power and road ready. You'd have to get ecu and wiring somewhere else though, but ND does offer electronic stuff too.
