Advanced timing 1 notch, different power curve now!
Hey Check this out, I turned my cam sprocket 1 notch to the right and now I can control my power curve.... Check this out... If I advance the timing, and peg it, it has low power until it revs up then it starts to pull hard... If I retard the timing, it has low more end power, and then when it revs up it doesn't pull as hard. Only problem is, is that it bogs down if the RPM's are too low. Any one ever done anything like this before? Or have any tips, should I turn the cam in the opposite direction? Lemme know! Otherwise I think it's more powerful, muahahah!!

Do you have access to a dyno? I thought about this before but you have the problem that you have now, a trade off. It would be nice if the E16 was a twin cam, you could get some adjustable cam gears and have your self some fun! Sorry i couldn't be more help.

What engine are you running? I have that same car. But it only has a e16s. I have a ca18de almost ready for the swap!!
I have the E16i... it's not bad, I got an MSD 6AL on it, it does ok now that it's got a manual ^_^... Also, does anyone have any problems with the cam seal walking out and leaking oil? Mine keeps doing it, I think I'm going to replace it... I'm just seeing if anyone else has this prob.... : )~

at 10+ degrees advanced, i have to get over 3k before there was any power, it was fun from 3-6, SO I backed off a little bit and got a bit more power under 3k but lost alittle at 6k.
I want one of those Gtech things so i'm not trying to compare how i think the car performs. Anyone have any opinions on those gadgets?
E16s here also, so us carburated guys may have a different experience.
always been curious about them but never wanted to throw out $100 to find out.
And out of curiosity anyone know if there is a way to setup a variable igntion timing curve. Like so that from idle to 3k rpm its strong then at 3k rpm the igntion timing advances to like 10degrees static to pull up to 6k rpm. i know that there is a normal advance but it doesn't work that radical......did what i say make any sense
and i mean without using aftermarket ecu

at the expense of sounding like a fool. no, i turned the distributor. If that is not right then i think i will be learning a better way.
I'm just hearing about doing it with the cam here in this thread.
i'm learning.
upon thinking more turning the cam changes the valve timing reletive to the crank, where as turning the distributor changes where in a stroke the spark occurs.

ok thats fine. dont turn the cam unless you're sure of what it does. thats why i was asking cause i dunno if its a good idea or not in this engine. i was just wondering if you had those effects straight from ignition adjustment or with cam change.
