Go get you a CA18DET, wire harness, AFM, ignitor and ecu, keep your tranny and you'll have some fun. The CA18ET is not worth the headache because of the lack of parts support for it. And besides the fact that you have the chance to upgrade to a better motor of the same CA family.

Too weak of a tranny to use with a CA18DET! A 6speed tranny will not attch to this motor without first swapping the bellhousing and because of the CA18DEt's rev characteristics and the heavy foot fool behind the wheel, it will shit itself in no time.

That is a great car you've found. My biggest piece of advice is to go to www.club-s12.org , register on the forum, and look around (in the CA18ET forum especially). You'll find loads of info on the turbo S12, including mods that members have done. The resident "turbo king" at Club S12 is bartc_j, his '86 200SX Turbo is up near 200 hp, mostly with homemade mods, and he and all the members of Club S12 are always glad to advise and share their knowledge. My username there is cls12vg30.

I've been idly interested in the S12 for a couple years now. In fact, I've come across your website more than once. Is the V6 model worth getting? I'm not looking for a serious performance car, just something to toy around with and probably eventually junk/part-out when it turns into an absolute beater.
It's definitely worth getting, if you can find one. There were only about 10-12,000 S12 V6's total made in 87 and 88. Actually I think there is a guy who posted a message to Club S12 recently who is from central KY who said something about possibly selling his V6.
I love mine. I've done light mods, including a cone filter, 2.5" flowmaster cat-back exhaust, and I recently swapped out the engine-driven fan in favor a set of side-by-side electric fans. Go to Club S12 and browse around the VG30E Tech section, you'll get a good impression of what owners do to their cars, and how it is to own one.
