has my transaxle been geared

I recently bought a 88 pulsar nx se. it seems really low geared. at 80 mph the engine is running 4300 RPM's in 5th gear. it has all kinds of power even at 100mph for being stock. it has a ca18de engine and the tag on the fire wall says the transaxle is RS5F50A i looked that up and it corrosponds to the maxima or stanza not the pulsar. anyone know whats going on.
thanks!

has anyone checked your speedo?

that is an absurdly high engine speed for 80. my old sentra WAS geared, and it didn't do that. you sure you're not in 3rd?

its fifth gear and my speedo is off. when it says 85 actual is 70. so 4000 rpm in 5th at 70 mph real. it seems that 4th and 5th are the only ones that seem low. and very close together.

does the sticker on the timing belt cover (the one that say how many miles to change the belt at) have english if it was sold in america. cause it all japanese except "100,000 km" i think it was changed. i also bought new brake rotors and they were smaller than the ones on the car. and under the dash is a 3 inch dia. pipe that is welded accross from side to side and it doesn't look like it is stock( no paint or coating on it)

Whats up yall!!! Its been a minute since my last post. (I finally got that daymn bellhousing swaped out and the tranny is in!!!!..). I have noticed some unusually high RPM's (I put a tach in and noticed at 75mph I was hittin'4000 rpm's ) I have the 3 speed automatic trans and it shifts twice ..so i figure one of two things about your dilima..

1. your tranny is supposed to give you those numbers at high speed and were just a little paranoid...OR

2.Lasurous is right!!!! There must be an overdrive gear not kickin in on my car and we both need to seek a transmission specialist ASAP!!!

I dont know.........

I hope this helps

Sincerly,

i don't think its relevent in my case since i have a manual trans. i only logical conclusion i can see would be since my tranny is from a maxima-stanza maybe the tires are smaller on the pulsar and the mph gauge also varies from pular to stanza. smaller tires would explain the low gearing and the difference it speedo out put speeds would explain the speedo being off. I wish i new who owned this car prior to me so i could satisfy my Question.

depends what year stanza its from. my old stanza wagon has tallish 14inch wheels...dunno about the sedan models. Also the wagon has alot different gearing than sedan obviously...but i'm going to give an educated guess that its the tranny gears aren't the same. At least you aren't as bad as my chevy...95 on the speedo is 70mph...and i have noidea how fast i'm going at 120
