Well I went on a nice camping trip this weekend. Went fine except for the end on the way up. It was about 300km but the last 12km was on a pretty nasty dirt road. The San took it like a champ until the end.
I went through a little puddle, and into first gear to go up a small rise, and at about 16-1800 rpm I heard ping-ping-ping.

My fans don't kick on properly still, (only goes on for like ten second bursts) and wouldn't keep the heat down. The needle was only at like 3/4, so I was very surprised. I shut down, and we walked the last half kilometer, and I went back for it later.
The mechanic said today there's nothing he can do, except relay a switch so I can manually turn on the fan myself. He won't put another fan in the space for AC equipped cars, says that won't help. What will work?
I have basically replaced everything in the cooling system brand new, and the new engine only has 1200km on it. The hard cooling pipe on the back is still leaking a bit by the bung for the heater core. It is full of corrosion. Could this be causing my problems?
