87 Sentra needs help BAD

My girl's 87 Sentra is in serious need of some balls, especially being an automatic. Before everyone starts suggesting engine swap, we're not trying to waste more than $300-$400 TOPS, unless you tell me we can do a motor swap within this price range!

I'm gonna go ahead and do the 2" exhaust, but I don't want a loud ass fart pipe on the car either. So unless someone can suggest a really quiet muffler, I'll probably leave the muffler alone.

I guess I can try the headers too, even though I'll have to swap them everytime smog time comes around. Can anyone recommend a good header, as far as power improvement?

I saw Minute Rice Sentra's airbox mod, so I'm hoping to try this as well, again, as long as I can easily replace stuff back to stock for smog.

I also heard there's a Nismo cam swap. How much does this cam run for, and is it a difficult swap?

This is as much as I've found reaserching about this. If anyone else can add to this list, that would be appreciated. What I'm the most concerned about is if all or any of this stuff is worth the time or effort to do, power wise. I'm not trying to make a racer out of her car. I just want her to not be scared when she's trying to get on the freeway or trying to pass!

By the way, it's an E16

Thanks,
Gino

The cam you are talking about is refered to as the Euro cam. Do a search on that and you should get a bunch of info...there's an active threade on the B11/B12 forum.

Is yours a carb model? If so just flip the top of the air cleaner over, make the arrow point to the rear, and take the rubber gasket off and put it on the other side. You'll feel it above 3k.

If you go with a 2" exhaust why stick with the 1 3/4 stock muffler. If you want an OE sound just go to a muffler shop and get a 2" OE style muffler.

The exhaust manifold you have is a recommended upgrade for the '86 and earlier E16's that need to be emissions friendly so it may be easier to keep it.

Did you read Blownb310's E series mods thread? If not you need to.
