Talking E15 stroked to 1700cc again.

The following are bore and stroke figures for E engines

Bore Stroke
E13 76mm 70mm
E15 76mm 82mm
E16 76mm 88mm

Notice that 6mm on the stroke ads 100cc more to engine displacement.

Will an E15(my engine) with an E16 crank and 3mm added to the conrod (total stroke 91mm) will be an E17?

I do realise the piston head will have to be shaved.

Please help before I do this and learn the hard way

Changing the connecting rod length will not change stroke, it would just move the overall stroke up or down by the amount you adjust the connecting rod length.

Fastpakr's right on the money again!

I've never done it, but I read somewhere here that the Aussies have a [probably exspensive] engine kit to make an E17. I wonder how much more power it would make?

Wasn't the Aussie kit just a massive overbore piston set, like .080?

Couldn't you just get an E17 crank/piston combo and swap it in...I mean, the e-series all use the same block with different cranks and rods right? Thats the only way to change displacement w/out boring it anyway...what's yours blown??...and E16 and a half?

***** Yes, I think that's right. I guess it would be best to go to the N12 website and re-read the kits contents.

I'm about to head out the door to enter my 4WD wagon in an autocross this morning, so I don't have the time to go and look up the details, but I think boring the block 2mm [or .080" over] is essential to obtaining the 1700cc's. My race engine uses the stock E16 stroke and has been bored .035" over. I don't remember exactly what it works out to, something like 1630cc's.

Blowns right about the overbore... 3mm longer conrods wont change anything (but the fact that it will smash the head) youll still get the same displacement !!... it will just be 3mm higher in the block... the conrods in the E15 are longer than the E16/E15t... but using those with the E16 crank and piston is a big no no !!... wont clear deck height... the aussie kit comes with custom forged piston to get 7.4:1 comp ratio, same as standart E15t but more displacement and .080 over.... if you ever want a 1.7, just get custom piston done and rebore your block

and if you're having pistons made, have them put the rings a little closer to the top, and use the longer rods.

longer rods = better: lower peak piston speed, lower piston thrust (lower piston thrust = lower internal friction) you might gain 1 or 2 horsepower at no additional cost. (supposing you have the conrods, that is...)

damn. and now i'm schemin'...

**anyone who has taken their E15T apart... does it look like there's enough room to mill off about 3mm from the crown of the piston?
