Best mods for a CA16DE

I've got 1987 Pulsar and I am wondering what kindof mods and stuff are the best for this engine? Of course intake and exhaust are obvious, but after than what gives the best bang for the buck?

And I know this question has probably been answered hundreds of times so I apologize in advance for newBie crap

It all depends on your budget. What are you looking to spend? For about 2-3k you could get it bored and stroked to 1.8l, port/polish head, get custom reground cams, dual springs...yada, yada, yada.

I'm waiting for some time to get to a junkyard to see if a Stanza throttle body from a CA20E will fit my CA18DE manifold. Supposed to be quite a bit larger. Has to be the Nissan t/b, not the Hitachi.

Of course there's always the CA18DE or CA18DET swap. Like I said, depends on your budget.

Unfortunately, the CA16DE was only available in the U.S. for one year so there aren't going to be many aftermarket parts for it. Most of the performance internals will have to be custom made.

I was wrong on that first post. It's actually a throttle body off a Stanza with a KA24E. The Stanza was the only model that used the Nissan t/b. The 240SX used the Hitachi t/b. I think the reason the Hitachi doesn't work is that it has a different degree of travel and throttle linkage setup. I can't remember where I read about this, maybe NICO forums or EXA forums.

So what you would be looking for is a late 80's Stanza with a KA24E and a Nissan manufactured t/b.

KA24E Throttle Body

Well, I went out and got me another throttle body today. At the local pic-n-pull there was a total of two suitable throttle bodies. One from a '91 Stanza with KA24E and Nissan t/b, and another from a funky looking van I think it was an Axxess or something with a KA24E and Hitachi t/b. While the two were basically identical the Nissan t/b had a slightly larger manifold side opening. Both had the same size t/b plate.

Any problems related to the throttle linkage between the Nissan and Hitachi t/b's are a non issue. All you have to do is pull the linkage/spring assembly off your current t/b and slap it on the new one. Same for the TPS. The water line nipples are a little different on the KA24 and I had to cut one down to make it fit. Also, there is a bracket from the intake manifold to t/b that needs some grinding as it was not designed to fit around the larger bore. EDIT: Almost forgot. The return spring pin on the KA t/b is too long for the CA cable connector/spring assembly. I had to cut it to match the CA's length. The CA spring pin has a head on it to keep the springs from slipping off since it's so short. I just zip tied the ends of the springs together and they ain't going anywhere.

The next step is to pull the manifold off and port match it to the new t/b.

Here's some pics, you can see how much larger the KA24E t/b is than the CA18DE t/b. In the last pic you can actuall see that the CA18 t/b fits inside the KA24 t/b.
