Question Timing belt tensioner

Is it necessary to use a new timing belt tensioner when replacing the timing belt? The belt I have now is showing a light bit of wear, but, My last Nissan broke the belt and lunched the engine. Yikes.

***** Ditto. I never have. I do give the tensioner a spin by hand and feel if it turns smoothly. I can feel if the bearing is good.
