HP Problem

I have a E16S and I can't make it up the canyon. I live in Utah and I love the mountains, but this car will not make it. Any tips on cheap intake mods or exhaust mods. My only mods are suspension. I have a titanium muffler but haven't welded it on yet.

How steep is the canyon? That sounds pretty tough....I guess you could always pull the rear seats and the spare and save some weight.

is this the carb model? I had the same problem in Colorado with a 289 Mustang. Car can't breath at a high altitude. I took a Coors beer can and ripped in half. Jammed it into the carb intake so as not to let the choke take over and it worked fine.

you'd better get headers, and install that exhaust... you might as well go fullpipe!

i had the same problem with my car up in the mountains... it really is bad breathing... surprisingly, just a muffler change and the cheapest aftermarket air filter you can find should help solve the problem.

No. If it's bogging under load or requires premium fuel, something is wrong. Headers/exhaust will not fix or improve on that.

You need to work through all the vacuum lines and verify their condition and proper routing. Check for vacuum leaks. Confirm timing. Once that's done, test the computer for codes and proceed with testing based on what you get. Once the car is running properly, if you're still not satisfied with the performance you can reasonably consider performance modifications. Doing that on a broken engine like you have now is a waste of time and money.

I just had a complete carb rebuild 700.00 bucks then PCV, oil change, air filter, O2 sensor, starter, battery, plugs, wires, I think my plugs might be fouled out though so I am going to check and see. How much is a header?

Check timing and vacuum leaks. This is not a problem that a header will solve.
