E16i ---> GA16i

I have been monitoring the posts reguarding throttle body upgrades from the GA16i onto the E16i enginge. I decided to just swap the entire engine. I'm about to start day 4 of this project. Day 3 ended with the first start of the car and it ran pretty terrible. Hope to get some vac lines and more sensors figured out today to get the car to a drivable state. I suppose the biggest dillema came from the distributors, more specifically the crank position sensors. After a couple hours I figured out which wires to splice from the E16i harness to the GA16i CMP. I think I need to put the airmass sensor from the E16i on the GA16i because I am sure the one from the GA16i is sending the wrong signals to the computer even though they monitor the air in the same way. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You should use the MAF that goes with the engine and ECU, i.e. if you're using the GA16i you need to use its ECU and sensors. Do not try to control the GA16i with an ECU that's been tuned to run a significantly different motor.

The majority of the sensors are the same. The ECU is very similiar. And people have already sucessfully changed the TBIs from those engines which is were the majority of the sensors are located. Should just take some time to work out the details, but I know I can do it.

Some/all of the sensors may be the same. However, the ECU is most certainly not the same. While the engine may run (even decently) with the wrong ECU, it will never be right. All of the fuel mappings are built around an engine with a different VE. There will be some adaptiveness, but you'd be dramatically better off doing it properly and using the computer with the correct tuning on it for the engine it's controlling.

use the sensor of the E16 TBI bolted to the ga16i one .... dont mess with the wiring the only thing youll get by changing the TBi is to get the bigger butterfly...

Exactly. Put the Mass Airflow Meter from the E16i on the GA16i today and it drastically improved how it run. It's definitely drivable now and I still have other things I need to do so the ECU doesn't see any problems. I am not going to mess with the wires any more than I have to. I had to cut and splice for the Crank Position Sensor to work right but that's all so far. Come to think of it I should post the wiring for that up here to make it easier on others if they ever want. I have it written down at the shop so I'll get it tomorrow and post it. Any other suggestions out there?
