my old man has an A12* left over from his racing days... about 180 hp @ 11,500 rpm. hand-selected, weight-matched rods forged arias pistons, std crank, high port head... isky cam, buncha other goodies... if the price is right he might be willing to sell it. it bolts into any RWD datsun with an A-series engine, including, but not limited to, datsun 1200, datsun 210, datsun b210, and, most importantly, select datsun 310 FWD cars... the drivetrains of which can be swapped into B11/N12 chassis...
anyone bored?
*1200cc pushrod engine NON-crossflow head...

***** Sounds awesome. I have read about the potent A-series engines that have been built. And yes, for some reason, the top Datsun engine builders of the 80's liked the A12's better than the larger A-series engines. I guess is has something to do with the 11,500 rpm thing.
I am currently building an A16, a 2mm over A15 with Justy pistons in it. See: http://www.nissanforums.com/showthre...hreadid=25728. My engine will be for a street '77 B210 and I am looking for some midrange torque. I will be shifting my A16 at about 6,000 rpm, which is before your Dad's engine is even "on the cam" yet.

***** Hmmm...... the 310's did have the A-series in them, but they had a totally unique FWD transaxle setup, which would not work in a B11 or N12. On the other hand, in the 310's last year of production ['82] they had the E15 in them. That drivetrain, of course, would go right into a B11 or N12.

yeah. different transaxle... BUT, i *think* (but am not sure, i'v only seen one in my life, and that was 8 years ago...) that the motor/trxle mounts are all in the same place. we'd need the trans axle, and all the mounts, shifter, etc...
worst case: there are similar mounting points on an a-series, and transaxle-to-chassis mounts can be fabbed up...

yeah, the short stroke made for a wicked-good rod/stroke ratio. not a whole lot of rod acceleratin' goin' on...

Back in the 80's I had an A14 shortblock with an isky cam that had the GX cylinderhead with SU's and the cast iron exh. manifold on it.I had it in a 1200.that car ran very well for what it was.hardly ever lost a race to another 4 banger.it would even beat some V-8's.IT was great to see the look on a guys face that you just beat that had an OHC motor, dual carbs, header, etc.when he looked under my hood and would see a tiny pushrod motor with SU's and cast e. manifold.THAT was one tough little motor.but it was hard on transmissions and rearends I broke enough of them.I still have a couple of GX cylinder headsSU intakes and the isky cam if anyone mightbe interested in them.I'm in the process of building an E-series motor now anyone have a 15m head ill trade you for a GX head
