E16s (87 sentra) TACH install

As we know the 87 sentra (E16s) came without a TACH. My question is:

How do you connect the signal wire that feeds into a universal TACH?

And from where is that SIGNAL WIRE that connects into the TACH's input?

Thanks

There are two wires that go into the coil. One is a signal wire, the other is a ground. The ground is black/white stripe (I think) and the other is the one you wat to tap in to. I forget the colours. You'll have to run a wire from the signal wire on the coil through a hole in the fire wall to behind the dash. I drilled a hole in the plate the holds the clutch cable where it goes through the fire wall. Here are some pics.

OK OK... let me clear this thing out, so that I won't damage my coil.

You mean to say the coil has two input wires, base on the picture the wires came out from the power transistor and they were connected to the coil 's input.

one wire is connected is for the ground (-) is this ground the chassis ground? or is just negative from the power transistor?

the other wire is exclusively for the tach's signal.

Thanks....

OK this is the final TACH connection:

On E16s 87 sentra

Turqoise wire = goes into the tachometer input signal.

( turqoise wire is ouptut of power transistor that goes into the coil, the other one is the ground).

So in other words I'll tapped a wire only at TURQOISE WIRE then connect it to tach input signal.

THANKS ALOT!

i was reading on what you said about tourqouise or whatever colored wire, what is that color. I was looking through where you connected the tach and noticed it is closed, so i can't see what color it is. When i opened mines up, i saw three slots for wires(one of them is empty) so which one do i put it in ? If i connect it to the wrong wire, will it mess up my car.

tapped only at the output transistor's side ( there's only two wires)

this is for E16s sentra 87 ( I dont know about the other odels)

tourqoise = is something like blue-green color ( this is where you have to tapped a wire that feeds the signal to the tach)

the other wire is BLACK (with white stripes) leave that wire alone.

what happens if you don't leave the black/white wire alone?
