Exclamation radiator fan

hey guys, i was wondering when was the time where the car had to turn on the radiator fan? I am asking this because the idiots that i bought my car from made the fan direct(that's when you have to turn it on with a switch). My car is a 1988 sentra 2 door sedan. I am asking this because nissan has one of the most uninformative temp gages out there. So anyway, should i turn the fan on when the little stick is on the "C". Well, thanx.

gheezz....not sure when you should turn on the fan. I know one thing though, the fan in my B11 turns on automatically when the gauge reads somewhere slightly higher than 1/2. Besides, the fan will turn on whenever i switch on the a/c, regardless the temp.

i dont know about the switch , man. u could forget someday and that could be bad for ur engine. the temp sensors arent that expensive so u should be able to put everything back stock for about 12 bucks. ive seen them that cheap

TRUST ME.......You dont want to rely on a switch and your memory... Ive been there and done that....Either you or someone you let drive the car WILL forget. Mine was fine for about 6mths and THEN... Guess what, time for a head gasket. And if youve got the GA16i, and you blow the head gasket its gonna cost $120+ to fix it yourself.

This is similar to what I was going to post, so Ill just put it in here.

When I bought my B12 back in June, I noticed that the temp gauge on the dash wasnt working. (All other gauges work fine) At the time, I didnt have a chance to figure out why, or anything. I eventually went and bought a cheap aftermarket temp gauge, but couldnt find anywhere to hook it up (since there is already that sensor in the rad, its the only place I found that it could go. I thought about putting a "T" fitting there to retain that sensor, and put mine in as well, but I think that would affect the readings. Anyone else put an aftermarket temp gauge into there E16? If so, where did you put the sensor?

Also, I need to know if the same temp sensor that is used for the gauge controls when the fan turns on? I jumpered my fan to see if it works, and it does, but I have never had it come on ever. I figured that its because the dash temp gauge is out.

Is it the sensor that is screwed into the rad? Is it the same sensor for both the gauge and the fan? Or is there something else for the fan?

I dont want to pay an arm and a leg for this stuff too. I might hit the junkyards, depending on price. But I need to know about these sensors before I get started.

Id like to have the factory system working correctly (ie: fan working & temp gauge working)

I just bought the sensor for the radiator, but it still doesn't seem to turn on. I wonder what it might be, i checked the fuses and they work, i guess i don't have any options but to drive it like that i guess, oh well. Hope i don't end up forgeting one day.
