i found a 1 transmission about 30 minutes north of me.
i might uby it, guy wants $260, $220 if i give him my old one, but, doubt he'll take it, it's all tore apart.

i've been going through a list of yards in the neighbooring 6 states, and they said there's 3 or 4 different model of transmissions that'll work..

ther'es 2 different models that will bolt directly to the block without modification, as the guy understands it (?). he said the only difference is the ratio. dunno if that's all gears different or the final drive, not sure. maybe someone here knows?

the other ones are crazier. dowlpins become bolts and bolts become dowlpins. so that may require some dickin' around to get working. on top of that, i'd have to get it UPS's, rates start around $70. which isn't bad, i can't drive that one way on my own gas money. only down side is i'll have to pay him to remove them as i can't.

called a uwrench it in holland, he couldn't tell me anything because they don't inventory. i told him that's the most retarded thing i've heard, espeically with as much as they have for resources (800-1000) i think he got pissed because he hung up the phone on me

"you have that many cars and you have no idea what you have or where it's at?" "nope" "that's the dumbest thing i've heard!" *click*

honestly i've never heard of a salvage lot that doesn't inventory anything.

so i'm going to have to take a saturday and look at what they got.

but i ordered 2 bearings from nissan and those should be here sometime thrusday, unfortunatly i'm on standby maint for the weekend so, i'm stuck to the no more then 15 mins from the property rule.

sometime the next weekend i'll stuff it together and see what it does.

if anyone can list what models trans are different and if they'll work, post some results.

for being a nissan fan forum there really isn't much information. or no one is looking at my posts.

A 4 speed manual will work, but you will need a different engine mount that goes under the battery. Pulasrs and sentra's use the same transmissions as long as the pulsar has the E16I. The pulasr has a lower final drive ratio than the sentra, but the transmission will bolt right in. You can use any transmission from a sentra or pulsar with the E16I engine from 1982-1985. I don't know if you could use a transmission from a Sentra B12 1986-1988, even though they use the same engines, the front end is different so you might not be able to use a newer transmission.

well, took the case right out and inspected the clutch, nothing wild with that.

but i'm going to put in a kit for $110 since it's all apart. everything's an a$$hole to get apart.

since i had the bellhousing 1/2 of the case out, i decided to knock the set pin out of that shift rod and pull that out of the case, and where i have the circled part in the picture 'chuck' lableed, sure enough ,there's a bushing that goes in there and it's all wore out crazy, and started to wear away at the case itself. NOWHERE whatsoever is there any exploded views showing that a bushing needs to go in there, so i'm going to have to find something as cloase as i can find and turn it out to what i need wit hthe lathe.

but that's what happened, that bushing wore out, which let that shift rod move too far away of where it's supposed to slide, and let the spring and ball fall out of the shift fork, which let everything move all too far at the wrong time in the wrong way and let 2 different forks move into a gear at the same time, locking everything up.

while i was at it i pulled the input bearing outa nd discovered that's all crazy, so orderd one of those.

So, $50 for the car, $22 for rod bearings, $20 and $25 for trans bearings, $110 for a clutch it, $20 for axle seals.

1 weekend and 2 evenings.

and in the end will get 35mpg like a $13,000 new vehicle. wtf is up with that?

13g should get like a 300mpg car, or so it seems....

turned out a new bushing on the lathe, twice, took a few too many thousandths off the first time.

dealer wanted like $130 for a 5th &reverse fork, so i just took the mig and some aluminum wire and welded it up and ground out what i needed for the button to fit in.

got the trans together, in and bolted up, discovered the spider gears were a tooth off and could only get one axle in....had to pull it back out and split the case and take everything out and re-position the gears.

put it back in, installed everything, fired it up, took it around the block, back into the garage over the pit, decided to check for leaks....just how good my luck is, rear main started decided to leak, wtf!?

so i had to take everything back apart, and put in a rear seal, wile i was at it took the oil pan off and re-goobered that up to make sure it wouldn't leak. i decided to just install a clutch disc only instead of a kit, why spend the extra money and still have it all face against a flywheel that needs turning? so $20 instead of $110. kinda tricky to center a clutch without a centering tool, but i managed to get it lined up 3 different times on the first shot

got the trans mounted against the block, forgot the put in the tin shield between the two, mother F-er!! had to take it out and flywheel back off. and recenter the clutch again,

took care of more vacuum leaks, purrs like a kitten now. shifts alot nicer, as now it acutally has the detents, as before the stick would just stay where i left it, would never center itself when out of gear.

jesus, what a weekend.

but i told everyone i would win.
