Even though the E16s in my 83 NX runs very well, I've been thinking about doing an engine swap in the near future. The reason being is I can get used parts including engines and trannys for cheap from a wreckers I used to work for. And, I'm hoping go fast goodies are more readily available for the newer motors (fifth gear would be nice too) After reading through the forums it seems the CA swap would be the easiest. Now, what engines came in what years? I'm new to the Pulsars and don't have a clue what to ask for when I get the new motor and tranny. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

83 and 84 had either E16s or turbo E15. 85 and 86 had E16s only. N13 Pulsars (87-90) had either E16i, GA16i, CA16de or CA18de. Third generation models had a GA16 engine or a SR20de. Probably the easiest swap is to switch to a turbo E15 since it would pretty much bolt right in but since you're going from a carb to fuel injection other stuff has to be swapped too. Probably still be easier though than going to a CA engine.
