transmission oil

Is it safe to put in transmission oil through the breather? Are there any alternative places to put in transmission oil other than the standard place in the side? By the way it is an 89 Sentra manual, HELP!!!

ok there newbie, learn your basics, calm down. this onesa free be, theres a designatedfill and drain area on manual transmissions, the fill area is on the front of the tranny about halfway on the tranny, the plug is confusing to newbies because it doesnt have a head on it, u actually take a 3/8s wratchet and put it in the plug as if the plug were a socket itself. The drain plug is of the same concept except its a 1/2 inch wratchet and the plug is located logically on the bottom, look at this first so u can get a idea of what to look for on the front, good luck . and o yea i know your going to ask so i will just say itnow, make sure the car is level and get a funel witha bendable neck to stick inthe fill whole and put as much fluid in as it takes before fluid starts to back out of the whole itself and thats how u know its full

Here's a trick you might try. Instead of using a funnel, use a piece of fuel line. It attaches nicely to the end of the std transmission oil bottles and fits well into the fill hole. Had to do that when I had RX-7's.
