Depends on what kind of horsepower you want. If you want to back with the e16...you can get a JDM e15 engine. Also if you want some more horses with that you can get the e15et which is a turbo motor. I dont know much about the CA series engines, dunno if they are a direct fit. I do know that the car will require mod if you drop in a SR20DE. You have a few options, just tell us what you want to do and we can help you out.
Hi
The e16 has 75 hp (stock)
The ga16 has 100 hp (stock)
With a couple mods the ga has 110 hp, just what you are looking for w/o the extra displacement
GA and E series engines use the same gearbox
CA and SR swaps need another gearbox
But you would get more power too
If i can swap my e16 trans over to a ga18i engine then ill go w/ that route
I still dont know if i should do the engine replacement myself or do it professionaly. Im mostly worried about putting in the transmission wrong, and taking out my current engine; which has at least the exaust manifold rusted to the engine.
Note** I will not be putting in any a/c system including the a/c radiator so should i put a screen behind the grill to keep debree from getting under the hood.
85 sentra...
E and GA series will fit perfectly (some engine mounts adapting is necesary)
SR needs some metal cuting Dont know about the CA series...
And yes, gearbox=tranny
Sry for my 'mixed' english
The easiest thing you could possibly do is put another E16 engine in it. There are people who have put CA and SR engines into these cars but that requires lots of work and modifications like engine mounts and even cutting metal away. If you want more power out of this car your best bet is to get an E15ET. However I hear this will require more than just an engine swap. I think going from E16 to E15ET requires changine the fuel pump/gas tank as well. As for your transmission, I've never seen an E15ET powered car with an automatic. I think they may have all had 5 speed manuals? I guess if you really want more power the most sensible way to go is to change over to the E15ET. If you just want to do what's easiest and cheapest find another E16. The E16 can be incredibly reliable, it's just not powerful. If you just want something different then consider working out getting a CA or SR into it. I've seen an SR20DE powered N12 Pulsar before. It was packed in super tight. If you go that route you better hope you never need to work on anything. It damn near looked like you'd have to pull the engine out of the car to get to anything.
I believe that the trannys on the E and GA have different bellhousing bolt patterns meanning they will not bolt up to each other. A CA will be huge under the hood of a B11 so would a SR either build a E or do the GA swap just remember any seap is time consuming and I would/ will do it myself or the cost will be ungodly and kill a budget in a hurry just go slow.
Yes, you may need to swap bell housings
Yes, you'll need the computer for whatever motor you get and have to wire around the ingnition switch. Might be easier to swap harness too.
May need different fuel pump in the tank.
Where are you located? I have a spare 16s to get rid of.
I wouldn't swap an E16 for a regular E15. That's even worse. You think an E16 is slow just wait till you see what the E15 does. The E15ET is totally different. If you happen to be referring to that engine then I say go for it. Or just get another E16. Either of those 2 options are better than going to a regular E15.
E15 has 8 valves
GA15 has 16 valves
I would choose an E15ET but thats just me
Peace
The GA15E (MPFI) came with 12 valves (3 per cylinder). If you are talking about the GA15DE or GA15S, they are 16 valves (4 per cylinder) but require a completely different type of engine wiring harness and extensive cutting and splicing. I would stick with an E-series engine... less work and less expensive.
