I want to drift but have very little money. I have a 240sx lined up in good working order. With about $500 to spend, should i invest it in tires, springs, and strut bar? What is the bare minimum i should get before i start drifting recreationally? Are Intake, Headers, and Exhaust really neccesary?
I would recommend a VLSD first...as far as drifting on a budget? I guess you can keep modifications down but you are always gonna be spending $$$ on tires...Not a poor man's hobby....especially when you wreck...and if you are a drifter, you WILL wreck...
stay stock until you really learn what you are doing. that way if you screw your car up you dont have to worry about scratching your rims or anything like that. then as kato says get a Viscous Limited Slip Differential ( VLSD). then after that move to suspension mods. I/H/E are not nessecesary as the LSD and suspenions. Drifting relies heavuily on balance over all. as in weight balance, power ( not too muhc, just enough to cope with your skill level) and suspension( which should also be based on skill level).
definetly plan on wrecking. and dont kill yourself doing it on the streets. take it to the track.
hey mansome of us dont live near drift track (i live n miami). the streets is the only place to do it... and thats how it all started in japan.. so it seems only naturral to go that route. dont flame me... back me up guys who dont have tracks any where around!
Thanks for the replies. Im debating over a 240sx (s13 model), or an RX7 (88 Turbo). I know nothing about rotary engines but ive heard the rx7's are fun to drive + its a drop top. Any suggestions?
thats a tuff choice, cause s13's are awsome, but so are FC's, i would probably rather go with the FC, cause they arent as comin, and rotary engines are quite bad ass

I wouldnt go for an FC. You risk blowing an apex seal due to overheating and constant high revs. RX-7's parts are also pricey. The big thing is to upgrade ALL your cooling system if you gecide to get the FC. Plus their hell on gas. The S13 is gonna be a safer bet b/c there's a strong following aftermarket wise. Descent on gas. Cheaper parts than the RX-7. And their relatively easy to work on, motor wise.
