Need some help with some rim choices.

Hey, I'm trying to set up my '97 240 for better drifitng/racing. I'm getting a shock/suspension/lowering set later, but for now I'm just getting rims/tires/sway bars.

Any advice about what rims to get? I've got the stock SE alloy 16". I'm looking at wider low profile 17s.

Anyone know any good companies that make lightweight rims? (Cheap tires... lol)

ooo i know the perfect choice.. this is wat im gettin, the 57F gramlights, 5 spoke, forged 1 piece, you can get em up to 9.5 in width on the 17's, the 9.5 wide ones will run 400 each, the ones smaller will be alittle cheaper, i dont know how much cheaper though

Please tell me that's with tires? Lightweight? I'll check them out. Do you know a good site for a selection of rims? I lost mine, I think it was wheels.com or something.

Thanks for that I'll check those out.

One of my main goals is somewhat cheap... I'm not liking the $380 tag on some of those 17x8.5 gramm lights... per tireless rim, too...

I'll see, I'll see...

What about width? How does that change drifting? Would I want 8.5s or 7.5s?

PS what is the difference between forged and casted wheels?

Go to www.groupbuycenter.com and search for rims. You will find a group buy on 17 at like $550 for a set from a company called rota. They make knock off's that are light ,i already own a set of rota wheels and i havent had any problems with them at all.

What's offset. That's fine, I myself am wondering what size rims are better for drifting, in terms of width. I know I want to go for 17s already.

That group buy deal is starting $550 for 17s, that's not bad... but then I need to get tires.

This page is kind of hard to understand... I wish it was more descriptive in terms of sizes and widths available.

Am I correct that all of these rims are one piece and so that is the same benefit I want from forged rims?

I will look for Rotas elsewhere to find a type I like and see where I can get it cheap. Thanks.

Forged meaning all one piece ->> Aren't all rims forged? Maybe cheap ones aren't. Volk, Nippon, and OZ look good.

i dont mean to be an ass bro but do some reaserch before you ask questions.

the gram lights are forged but they dont weigh as light as the te-37 and rims like that. they are forged 1 peice, but they are heavy forged and have solid spoke deign. the te-37 has a hollow spoke design.

as for your drifting set up. i say dont buy wheels. if you curb check or hit something you'll feel like shit. trust me on this one.

suspension and LSD are more important to an amature drifter. i say while you're still learning to not do anything to you car, and then as you progress move up in modding with rims being last. tires are a good purchase but rims are more of a liability to a drifter. i've seen some altims 16's that look good.

just my .02
