So what the heck is a "drifting setup"?

I never really understood this. What exactly makes a suspension system a "drift" setup? What are the damper settings? How does the chassis have to transfer loads? I don't ever plan to go drifting, I'm just curious about this because I can never get detailed enough an answer.

not to mention the weight balance and chassis set up. its more driver preference, but there are a few genericly observed parts that are necessary for drifting ( lsd, coil-over, anti-roll bars and strut braces)

Im not to sure about it either, but i dont think it would be too far of from a racing set up, i think the drifting part of it will come down to how you actually control the car yourself, with w.e. balance your comfortable with, but im gonna start readin some of these books on suspension set ups, cause i dont know any of the specifics

What I really want to know is, if a drift setup is so similar to a race setup, why do people buy drifting dampers and springs? What do they change under the carriage that we're not seeing and is different?

I don't have coil-overs, so that means whatever I'm doing isn't drifting...damn...??? You can't drift w/o strut braces? I better tell all my friends...

he didnt say you couldnt do it without those parts. those are just the parts that professional drifters use, and the recommended parts. you can drift a completely stock car if you want.

i hope you're not serious. of course you can drift. i can drift my dads ford expedition. but the parts i specified as nessecary for drifitng is for upper-level aka no beginner drifting. once you've mastered drifting your car, then move on to up-grading your car. dont do it right off, or otherwise you run the risk of severly facking up your car.

93blackfool, i think he was being sarcastic. anybody can drift with anything, it's better with those aftermarket parts to handle the drift better, etc.

haha, with all the money i have to buy parts and expirement with, when im ready to buy my coilovers and crap, im makin sure that im investesting in good shit, i feel more comfortable sticking with an adjustable racing suspension that can probably be easily set up to handle like a drift one. But anyways im gonna do more research about all of it, and learn a little more about the set ups, and how they differ and shit.
