Who is a real drifter on this forum?

Judging from the answers when I try to ask a tech question, I don't think they are any!

Who here really drifts and enters contests. etc. Ass sliders and parking lot when no one is looking doesnt count. What is your experiance level and background?

I want to see who's advice I can trust here!

Mike

that's not too bright you know. think about it. you have less traction, which makes you lose traction easier. that's why you do it in the rain obviously. but here's the part you need to think about - you have less traction at the rear tires, so you'll also have less traction up front. do something slightly wrong, and you lose traction completely from the front tires, or even the back ones, and you are done. say hello to the tree, the oncoming car, the parked car, the telephone poll, the person standing on the side of the street, etc.... get the point?

Thats not what I am talking about. I am talking about actual drifters that know what they are doing that I can ask real questions to.

What do you know about LSD and suspension set up? I am trying to find out what are good base settings but it seems like most people on this forum are not real drifters that can give any sort of usedful advice.

Got any suggestions? My car is a Z32. Stuff that works for S13's and S14's should be applicable.

your Z32 is a lot heavier than an S13 or S14, so you'll need some stiffer springs than i would in my S13 to get the same results. as far as LSD goes, get a helical or clutch type, in a 1.5 or 2 way setting. i prefer the KAAZ unit because, for the S13 at least, it's adjustable between a 1 way, 1.5 way, and a 2 way. as far as suspension goes, you should learn on a stock suspension, and buy parts as you learn. things to buy are: strut tower bars, sway bars, control arms, tie rods, rear toe arms, adnd coilovers. of course, not all of this is needed to drift. as far as spring rates go on your coilovers, i'd go as stiff as possible. if the car is a daily driver tho, you might want to go a little softer. i plan on getting rates of 8kg for the front and 6kg for the rear. my car is also a daily driver. you might want to stick with those rates if your car is too. you also dont necessarily need that stiff of springs. what is needed most for drifting is excellent car control. everything else just helps. and i hope this answered some things for you.

I just got my first rwd and was wondering if any one knows of good places or events to practice or imporve on my drifting. My car has a good suspension already and is pretty well balanced. I've been doing a bit on the streets but not much because it is the streets

I have a KAAZ LSD and was wondering if I should set it to 1.5 or 2 way. The car is not a street car and is gutted so it weights only a little more than a typical street S13.

Do most drifters run higher rate rear than front springs?

Mike

I know. Its kind of ironic because today it was raining and i swerved to miss an dog in the road, spun out and hit a gaurd rail. The car is totaled. looks like it got bufu'd by a snow plow. I wasnt even trying to fool around. i miss it so much.

i would get a 1.5 way because you dont always want it to fully lock on deceleration. if it locks on deceleration, that means it will be locked even when you are braking, which isnt always a good thing.

basically every suspension is set up to have stiffer spring rates up front. it doesnt create and excess understeer or oversteer that way. drifting is the same way. you dont want your car to have too much of either, maybe a slight amount of oversteer for drifting, but you dont really want that either. a neutral balance is what you want.

but yeah, talk to StanBo and RudeBoy, and maybe some others. RudeBoy is a good friend of mine. he's crazy. and StanBo should be a pro.

But then again, when I lived in Japan I noticed there weren't many people "fronting" but rather simply living the lifestyle.

If you wanna learn how to drift, get off the internet and get onto the street!
No, what I am saying is I want to know who arer the real drifters here that can be counted on for accurate information. In the US, drifiting is such a fad that 95% of the people who say thaey are drifters are really wannabes that can't even drive.

If I am asking for information, I want to know who knows what they are doing and who to trust. A lot of people say they are drifters, very few can actualy do it.

As fars as driving out of the control on the street, only an idiot would do that. I discourage people from learning drifting on the street, learn on the track at a drift school or at Speed Trial USA.
