Drifting Holdens. Crimes against drift

Article here

Crime 1: Using a v8 na to drift (debateable though)
Crime 2: Thinking they can compete with 800kg 300hp AE86's and 1000kg Silvias in a 1800 kg, 350hp Monaro
Crime 3: Stealing their 'American' car from Australia
Crime 4: Putting a T-wing on it

Yep Agreed, still my car is a hybrid Holden/Nissan......I hate it, that the Americans take "our" cars and call them their own...... Holdens CAN'T drift for shit, well the older ones with live axel rear ends want to step out even when you are not even trying.... but you just can hold it, due to those Shitty borg-warner diffs

They would have done better with a VX SS Ute......

Still, if they gear the car correctly (eg 4.11 LSD or locker), the Monaro/V8 would make a pontent drift weapon, if a little large......hmmmmm hey look a Soarer with the correct Diff ratio can drift (seen that) and that was a V8....

And the T wing....urk!

It's sorta like toyota entering into the nascar truck series.
A bit off the wall but I will definately go to see it if it comes to the valley

Well i have to say thinks to you OZ guys for that car. I personly dont see anything wrong with drifting a car with a V8. i personaly think with drifting getting big in the USA that there will be alot of V8 Muscle cars drifting. one of the resons is because we have so many of them, they are cheap, make power for cheap, and dont have a hard time getting sideways.

Well Nissan did enter their R32 GTR into the ATCC (Aussie touring car champ) Group A races and everybody wrote it off, and you know what happened....maybe the Monaro/GTO is going to be the next big thing in drifting?!?! You just don't know...

the reason it's bad to drift a V8 is because it's pretty difficult to get THAT much weight in the rear end to somewhat balance the vehicle... of course, if you do, you've got one heavy car and again you're defeating yourself...

sure a camaro or mustang can get sideways easily, but they can't control them for crap!

Yeah I saw that on Car&Driver or some other tv magazine thing. They reported and admitted that the GTO was an re-born Aussie car. But they were dissapointed that the flaws found on the aus car still made it onto the us car. It's just a phase that the US is going through right now. All anyone is interested in anymore is throwback vehicles. Where some of them look nothing like their older counter parts. Especially this car. Looks nothing like the GTO of old. It's just a badge, and thats it. It might sell.. but its not going to sell well like the new mustangs, and thunderbirds will. they actually have the same styling cues as the old ones

you know the mustangs have been using the exact same chassis for 25 years. and 5.0's are really only 4.897.....not even a 4.9 technically!and yea that gto is nothing like the original gto...

i personally think those new t-birds are oogley

Well I wouldn't consider them flaws, but I'd also be pleased with almost anything as long as it comes with cruise control.

This is coming from Car&Driver though.. read here to see what flaws they are talkin about

lol, most of the faults are simple ones, and complaints about things like seat heaters are rubbish.....its a sports car FFS.....

Anyway the American version is MUCH heavier than the Aussie version, the official specs don't really tell the whole picture, I live in Adelaide South Australia , a k and a half away from the factory, most of my mates work there, the amount of extra s**t they added into the GTO is incredible.......I think we have a situation like with the Jap S13's and American 240's, the Jap ones are much better and the American ones suck..... American GTO's suck and the Monaro is much better.....mostly due to American Design rules......

Anyway I've driven a AE86, S13 and a Monaro (GTO), the AE86 is very tail happy, due to its non indipendant rear end (= best drift machine), while I'd put the S13 and Monaro in even honours on drifting, but the Monaro, with its greater amount of torque is much better at low speed drifting, I didn't get a chance to see how it went at high speed, dammit!

In the end the AE86 feels the best, still another live axel holden VB to VP with the diff setup correctly (must) would give the AE86 a run for its money...

Its not a Pontiac, but yes the AE86 should own it....... ....like I said before, lets talk about this after the event......Remeber people down here wrote off the R32 GTR Skyline (this was before it got its "godzilla" reputation).....Don't write a car just because you don't like it....
