Car Question

I just replaced the ring terminal connector for the battery post for my mom's Quest. The connector doesn't quite fit on, and sparks scare me; so I didn't really want to push it. It's about 80% on the terminal.

So.. the million dollar question:

Is it okay to hit the battery terminal post with a hammer? =)

As long as it's tight and making good contact I wouldn't worry. You can lightly tap on it, but I'd be careful. Batteries can explode.

sounds like you're trying to put a ground connector onto a + terminal..
the + and - terminals on a battery are slightly different size.. If you bought a terminal at the parts store for the wrong connector, you will have problems such as this.

and DO NOT hammer the terminal on there!! what happens is that you break the seal between the battery case and the terminal... then you get acid seeping out- which is what causes the crusty scale on the battery. it's the battery leaking because you damaged the seal on the posts...

not to mention the fact you need to be able to remove the connector in the future to replace the battery when it finally does fail. (it's a wear item.. you always replace a few batteries in the life of the car)
