Bye, Bye Z... Bye, Bye Nissan....

Yes, I am trading my Z in, I just left the dealership and it is all but a done deal, they just have to get the car I want from another dealer.

The new car you ask.... A 2004 Infiniti G35 Sedan, 6MT, Diamond Graphite (same as my Z), with premium and sport packages, and I am adding the full 4 piece aero kit that includes a new front bumper, side sills, rear under spoiler and a spoiler.

I am also taking the Nismo S-tune suspension (shocks, springs, and sways), Stoptech Big Brake Kit, and other Nismo parts and I am going to install them on the G35. I will pull the stuff off my car today and tomorrow. I hope to have the new car by next weekend.

The reason.... I am tired of a few minor problems, Nissan's lack of will to own up to them, and one bad service experience a couple weeks ago--> I took my car in for a 15,000 mile service. I told the service writer NOT to replace my Nismo air filter. I got the car back and noticed it had been changed that night. I called the service writer the next morning, and he talked to the tech. They told me they replaced it because there was a cheap panel filter in there (not the Nismo). They gave me what they claimed came out of my car, and it was a crappy filter that was Made in Canada, and it was covered in oil. The reason I say they ripped me off.... I do all the work on my car, except major services, Courtesy is the ONLY other person to turn a wrench on my car other than myself. And no, the $100 filter is not a big deal, but it is the principle. I also am tired of trying to get Nissan to replace the tranny for third gear grinding, and it is getting worse, probably once every two days (Started once a month at about 4000 miles, and has become more frequent). I know it is not me, I have never grinded any other gear even once, but third once every two days? I also know that at least 500 people have had their tranny's replaced for the same thing. So, I did not want to deal with the issue later down the road.

The G35 is the same platform, engine, and tranny as the Z, so I think I will be happy as far as peformance, and I think the quality, service, and extra room will be better. I am happy to stay in the Nissan family, but I am also happy I don't have to deal with Nissan. Sorry for the long post.

i envy you, i would love to have the money to get out of my nissan. i HATE dealing with the service department.

good choice on the next car though.

maybe after this summer i can get a 95 540i 6MT (very hard to find) or a 98 A4 AWD 1.8t 5sp.

Nice choice, I'm sure the service will be much better. Courtesy is alright though, they changed my tranny last week on the Spec and gave me a free rental.

Oh yeah isn't the tranny on the G the same as the Z, aren't u going to run into the same problems??

I sold the 19's, but I am working on a set of wheels for the G already, I will have them not too long after I get the car. Let's just say you guys will like....

I also thought about keeping the Z and buying a used Audi A4 1.8t Quattro, or even trading the Z for a new one, or a used S4. That was my next option after the G35. In the end I got a good deal and a really good deal on my trade in. I also liked many things about the Z, and kind of hated to get rid of it, so I think the G will be a good comprimise.

The G does have the same tranny, but a much later revision. Mine is 001, they are now on rev. 008 or 009. So, they have made a lot of changes. The tranny problem was relegated to the first 2000 or so Z's, mine was 864.

I also think if I have issues Infiniti will be easier to work with, so far Sewell Inifiniti has been great to work with, much better than Courtesy Nissan or Crest Infiniti (I went there a couple weeks ago, they must not like to sell cars).

good to hear.i thought Audi's werent that great. i havent heard a lot of good things about the 1.8T or the 2.7TT, although i have wanted a 2.7TT S4 for a LONG time. APR or somethign liek that makes some damn cool stuff for them. after college i plan on getting the M45 in black. im gonna stick with nissan, just geta little more luxury out of it.

Ha, ha....

I looked at those too. I really liked the grey with the red and black interior, in the end it was too much like the Z, just an extra backseat, I also think I like the Z's styling better.

Cars I considered:
G35 (Coupe and Sedan)
RX-8
Audi A4
BMW M3 (used)

g35s are VERY nice but i would have to say bmw all the way.
if i was lucky i could find a 91-95 M5, but keeping it up wouldn't be worth it.
340hp I-6, 6MT, can you blame me?

but a 540i would do just fine. i miss my 525i, but it was a little under powered.

i understand i am about to be killed. so be it.
