4th gen Convertible?

I wonder how difficult would it be to convert a 4th gen into a convertible?
Probably need some experienced body shop to cut a lot of metal, but other than that.. what will it take?

Just had this idea this morning.. Never seen a convertible Maxima

Never seen one because convertible 4-doors are just plain ugly, imo.

If anyone did a convertible on a Maxima then it would be best that they do a lot of fabrication to extend the front doors back a little and take out the rear 2 doors. The back seat would also need to be brought forward more unless you take away most of the trunk space.

It's possible...but the $$ it would take makes it more of an unattainable mod than anything.

Just my 2 pennies.

ive seen a 2nd gen, and man was it ugly
but anyways
you'd probably be looking at more money that it would be worth
you would need the top chopped and edges smoothed and capped, custom glass work, completely custom canvas work, getting it all sealed off properly, and im sure you would have to reinforce the undercarriage of the car
Im sure you could easliy spend around $10k just getting it done right

but i know a guy with a Sawz All who would do it for 20 bucks

post a pic of your car in the photoshop section...they can make it into a convertible so you can get an idea of what it will look like

if no one wants to donate a car we could always go to the junkyard with a battery powered sawzall and see how it would look.

Hmm.. Why would you want 2 doors? I think there aint nothing wrong w/ the way it is, just cut off the piece of the roof and replace it with fabric or whatever it is they use on convertibles..

I don't know about all that 'custom' work you mentioned and custom glass.. why cant you keep your existing glass??????

the fact is that it would all have to seal up properly which won't be too easy to do with a car that wasn't designed with a convertible in mind...

plus, you gotta figure out where the fabric will go when it retracts...

you would need custom rear glass and possibly sides if you went two door. the only 4dr convt. ive seen is the old lincoln continentals and they are kick ass. the problem with a 4dr convt is the B-pillars. they need more structure if they're no connected to a roof. not only would you be weakening the chassic, but you would also be adding a couple hundred pounds. however, if you made it a roadster, that wuld be better. im down for this junkyard trip..
