Help locate practice lots or remote areas

This city has grown too large and has zero tolerance for racing. I'm looking for a place to practice autoX type driving skills, low-speed that is, in the north dallas area. Years ago I had several remote lots to run around in without causing a scene or complaints. They are all gone now, so I'm wondering if anyone knows of some nice quite places with decent sized parking lots?

That would be really cool to watch...I wonder if the best way to go around doing this is to speak with the business lot owner.

Just find a location that has a large parking lot that might not be used on weekends and research for a contact.

If you have written consent from the business lot owner then the cops aren't able to do a single thing about it...it's a private lot.

I had a $24 screw up last week, but tried it again last night. The first time I tried to set the poly, the damn tape leaked. Yiks, I had the cr*p all over the garage floor. Fairly funny situation though. Anyway, I bought more goop and a roll of aluminum/tar tape and everything went great. The mounts look production quality, black color and all. They need to cure for 4-5 days, so I'll install them Sunday. I'll keep ya posted.

I don't think i've ever heard of a stiffer motor mount NOT helping...

hell, projectsilvia.com developed this cool strut looking device that bolts to the motor at one end and bolts to the strut tower at the other. it acts like an extra motor mount. it's freakin cool!

EDIT: here it is.... Engine Torque Dampener

This stuff is so stinkin easy to make now that I know where to get it. You can make just about any bushing at any durometer level. The shock torque dampener would cause problems if used alone on the spec. The mounts would still flex like crazy even though the top is held tight by the shock.

I only did the two cradle mounts this time around. I need to do the side mounts next to hold vibration in check. The sides will require lighter poly than the cradle, like a 60A instead of the 80.

wouldn't doing the side motor mounts be kinda pointless considering it's a front wheel drive motor.....

Yea, I might even start selling the completed units for a little extra cash. They are far cheaper than the $225 PR is charging. I figure a set would cost $140 plus shipping. Cheaper if the quantity increases.

Let me test them out to see if they break loose from the metal or stock rubber. Then you can buy my old mounts at a discount or get a set from Courtesy for ~$70. I have plenty of tape and the goop costs ~$25. There is enough for one pair of mounts plus another small mount in the 1lb 80A package. Bad thing is that you have to use the whole package at one time. They say you can compute the mix ratio, but it's not easy and if it's wrong the mix is sour.

Any/how is the vibration? Any extra cabin noises?

There are some lots in Allen , there is one behind an unoccupied business strip, I'll check it out. My brother says they go back there and race sometimes so should have plenty of room.

Or you could just come out to local autox events. There is one 2-3 weekends a month.

Or PM me for a place that I use (don't want to post it). It is not in north Dallas though, more mid cities.

Don't know yet. I will install this weekend. There will obviously be more, we shall see. I probably won't notice because the header/exhaust is already noisy.

Let me know about those lots. Thanks!
