I'm seriously gonna hunt you down for that car, I might have a project 240 hatch coming up but man I like em to be a lil older if possible. Dream would be an 85 AE86 GTS, my favorite car/year of all.
well got some news.... yesterday, I was getting the car ready to TRY to start it... so i drained all the old oil out of it, and I looked into my drain pan, a BUNCH of little metal shavings were in it... so I dropped the oil pan, and took a good look at everything, and I'm pretty sure it spun a rod bearing. I'm thinking THAT'S why it got parked ten years ago. A motor swap maybe in short order, I can see a little verticle scarring on the cylinder walls so I don't know if this block can be saved or not.... I want this thing done by at least the next lake meet and bring both my datsuns hahahahaha
grab the rods 1 at a time and see if you can wiggle them around
yup, did a little more investigating today, and cyl #1 has a spun rod bearing, and the front main bearing is bad too, ALOT of play in them both... I actually pulled a rod end off to inspect the crank, and it's all scarred up...so block and the crank are both scarred, this motor is junk pretty much, not worth machining down and all that BS..... I'm thinking about just finding a KA to go in it and be done with it..
Find a japanese engine importer that can get a a z18et and that's all youll need and still be able to keep your tranny and reuse all you factory mounts.
yeah, but how much would that cost? and I've heard horror stories of people getting SR's straight off the boat that's as bad as my z22e is now....
I can go pull a KA for 250 bucks and be done with it, and those things actually S/C pretty well, If I ever go that route....and I thought KA's would bolt right up to my trans, it's front sump etc etc... it just seems cheaper and easier... and I know a local fort worth datsun guy that has a z20e that just needs a head... in negotiations now.... so I may just take that and put this head on it, should be the same... I just want it get it as reliable as my maxima
...as reliable as your Maxima? Hasnt that thing left you stranded a couple times already?
haha, I see your point, but I meant mechanical wise lol yes the maxima has let me down but it was simple electrical problems, but mechanically, it can't be beat :P
