WOOOOOO I just got my 2-color indiglo gauges for my no-tach sentra in TODAY!!!!. i was just installing them, taking off the clear cover, the black shroud with my aluminum bezel, and VERY, VERY carefully took off the needles for the gas/water temp. then i moved to the speedo.....dun dun duuuuunnn..
it came off with a little more force needed, but also with it, came a thin-ass, copper spring-like wire. O.O this cant be good. so, here i am, heh. ANYONE know what this thing does? what its for? and if i just toaled my cluster/needle apparatus? (jebus i hope not)
ANY INFO will be greatly uhm.........hm.........uh.................you know what i mean

dun dun dun. It's dead. Unless you're a brain surgeon, u better go out and look for a new one. If you fuck up the copper spring (and the shaft comes out), you're screwed.
Check out car-part.com (under 'Speedometer') and find one with similar mileage on it.
also, as far as the brain surgery goes.....does the spring attatch to anything? or is it just sandwiched between the white piece where the shaft comes out/goes in and the clear light refracting thing?
.....bad luck seems to be following me and my car lately, damnit :-/

the the shaft needs to stay in. The spring stays coiled in there and it attaches to the white plastic base making the needle fall back towards zero. If the spring is damaged or the shaft is out completely, you can't fix it, you would actually need a donor shaft and spring, then you need to make note of every fine detail before you do the replacement. It's like working on the inside of a pocket watch.
....i just saw what you meant right after my last post.....theres a little stand with hot glue er something that the spring was in, and the end of the shaft has gears on it.........just testing with it, i wound the spring up 3 revolutions, and it worked like normal. 2 problems. well, 3 actually....
1. i have to seperate the shaft from the needle without killing it, because when i did this test i didnt take in account that the clear light peice has to go on, and it cant go on with the needle in place
2. how in the phack am i going to either re-heat the glue for the spring seat WITH the clear piece in place, or reglue it to the post using some really fast drying shiot.....
3. like i said before, it seemed to operate normally just doing a test fit, but i need to find out how many revolutions the spring is wound..........any of you out there willing to fire up the web cam for me, i can give you a black plastic b14 vc. all you gotta do, is take out your gauge cluster, pop off the clear shroud without cracking it, LIGHTLY take a finger, wind the speedo all the way to max speed, and let go so i can match it up with mine on how long it takes to return to zero.
p.s. if someone wants to open a ranting n raveing n shouting topic in ot, i will gladly be a postwhore for an hour, cause everything is just going wrong with my car this week (started thursday)

Call Nissan, surely somewhere in the deep archives of useless info, they have to have that information available. (Not so useless right now though, lol)
damn. i just threw my old one away today while cleanin out my room. garbage day is tomorrow and im not diggin through the trash can right now. id of given you my old no tach one if i'd of known. you might as well get the tachometer cluster and do the rewiring. its not oo hard and its VERY nice to have. maybe this is a sign to send back that indiglo and get yourself the tach version.
you should never take off the needles. i know you've heard other people say it, and some say its ok, but it's risky and expensive if you mess up. i simply slide the faces over the needles. it required a minimal amount of bending of the needles to get it through the holes in the overlays, but it work. looks nice with the custom red painted needles and red light bulbs.
uhm, these glo-gauges are exact to the stock overlays, as in they dont just slide over the needles. so either way, they have to come off.
i got a new cluster, with lower miles than the one i broke on it, and im kleeping records of the difference in mileage for down the road.
havent even attempted putting the indiglos on again, gonna take it to a shop, let them do it. its worth it if i dont have to waste a day looking for a new cluster.

actually.. if you are anybit mechanically inclined... the guages fit over the needles no problem.. ive done it in 5 cars so far.. and so far, its allll fit no problem
.......do you want pictures? the hole for the indiglo is the EXACT same size as the factory ones, try taking off the factory overlays, or even putting them on for that matter.
