Argh!
I went to have my tires replaced today at a local shop, they've done work for me before and they're fast, cheap and have proven to be reliable.
So today i drive up and ask for replacement tires for my front two wheels. I tell the mechanic (who didn't speak english very well at all), to be extremely careful where he jacks my car up because of the streetglow underbody kit I have, he nods his head at me, smiles and points me to the tire racks so i can pick out which tires I want. I walk back there and begin rummaging through the racks looking for some tires while he jacks up my car and prepares to replace the old work tires. I pick my tires, he mounts and balances them, and then over torques one of the lugs, causing one of the wheel screws to semi strip.
I let it go, theyre cheap to replace, and their previous work was good, and prices cheap enough that i could offset the cost of replacing the stud.
So tonight I get in my car and drive to the store to buy a can of coffee, and i go to switch my underbody lights on (its late, no ones out, and the cops in my neighborhood know me and dont hassle me about the lights), and i notice when i flip the switch its not lighting up with the red glow im accustomed to.
So im like "WTF?" I get out, and look around, my driverside 4 foot tube is only half lit, almost like the tube is going out. All other sides are fine. I inspect the tube thats not lighting properly wondering wtf is wrong with it, theres no breakage to the lexan outer casing that I can see or feel, so I assumed it was being underpowered by the way its partially lighting. Its dark and I cant really see so i flip the lights off and proceed to the store which has a well lit parking lot.
I get there, and sure enough, the asshole jacked the car up on the black end cap that houses the internal transformer to power each tube, causing it to crimp partially, and damage the transformer. Luckily he didnt break it, theres no crack visible that I can see, so it "should" be covered under my limited lifetime warranty.
It just aggravates me when i give specific instructions on what and what not to do with my car, and then people do the exact opposite. I like all of you, work hard on my car, and it pisses me off when people break stuff because of blatant disregard to simple instructions. Now im probably going to have to pay another 12 dollar shipping and handling fee on a replacement tube, provided they even replace it. When I bring it in i dont plan on pointing out the damage, its not apparent unless closely inspected, and hopefully I wont have to drop extra cash on buying a complete replacement tube. First I plan on going back to the tire shop and raising hell demanding that they pay the shipping fees and labor for the install (which ill do myself, but hey, its still labor).
/rant off.
