thinkin about painting my car

if i did it, what color do you think would look good? i like the black on it now, but it really needs to get touched up. i might just go all out while fixing my bumper from the other days smashup at the mall, (read the thread under the B14 : its called "fuck!"). im about to just shave all the body lines and everything, since i do have to bondo and repaint the front bumper

Keep in mind that to get it painted another color will require you doing a lot more work than just prepping, taping, and spraying. You'll have to pull the motor and most of the interior, at the very least. So I recommend that you keep it roughly the same color if you're not willing to do that kind of work.

Have it sprayed black with a heavy blue or red pearl or something - the Carbon Black on Yosuke's car comes to mind.

full color changes are a pain in the ass, but you dont HAVE to pull the motor out, you can instead cover the motor with plastic, and tape it down to the welds on the firewall and paint from the firewall welds up.

well if his car was black, then the engine bay will be black... I dont think that this part of the car would need to be repainted, I mean it wouldnt really mismatch (like painting a car from green to red) it may just look like it was supposed to be black...

But why would you get rid of the body lines, the B14 has some sick body lines if you ask me!

What color is the interior, that could weight heavily on what you should paint the car...

I would recommend prolly painting the same color and adding a colored pearl to give it a more custom look but if you do deceide to change the color of the car paint the engine bay otherwise it just looks half-a$$ed IMO.

how would i add a pearl color to it? and what would that look like over a black paint? its just that the paint on it now is so dead in some places, that it looks bad, theres a dent on the rear driver qrtr panel, from the previous owner, and lots of rock nicks. im considering just turning it into a beater, and going all performance, its just a shame that its automatic

pearl can be a dry or liquid additive that you mix into the paint or clearcoat itself, depending on how you want it to look. most mix it into the paint, and then add another additive to the clear (flake/prismatic flake).

for a b14 figure about 4 oz's of pearl will give it a pretty noticable color change at angles. 5 oz's will be a radical color change.

yeah the pearl is usually added in the clear. As long as you don't go too crazy with it, it will be a subtle change and when the sun reflects on it you can see the color tint. It looks really cool. It usually really shows across curves and such. But for the most part the car will still look black. However the one downfall to having pearl is if it gets damaged it is hard as hell to match up so to have everything perfect you sould have to respray the whole car but that is only if you want it perfect.
