Hey... New poster here... I have one quick question... How would i go about cleaning my engine properly. Ive heard to use grease lightning, and a paper towel... Someone else said power washer... I feel the power washer is way to powerful for such delicate stuff under the hood. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks.
I would stay away from a pressure washer. Some people have used it without problem but I have heard of others shorting out some of their electrical connectors with one. That was enough for me to just use a garden hose.
I have used Simple Green with luck before...and also Engine Brite. Haven't had a chance to use Grease Lightning yet.
Use an old toothbrush for the hard to get into areas.

I use Gunk engine degreaser in a spray can. Buy a cheap 2 inch paint brush and cut the bristles down to about 1.5 inches long. Work the Gunk in with the brush. Spray off with water before it drys.
You can make your own degreaser. Mix 3 parts liquid dishwashing detergent (I use Dawn) and 1 part kerosene. Use it like Gunk above.

your like martha stewart...........
i have heard of people using steam too. like if you have/ a friend has one of those "shark portable steam cleaners" but that may also not be good for the electrical idk
You can use Greased Lightning. Spray it on, let it soak for a few minutes and hose it off. I use the Orange Blast(made by greased Lightning also) it works wonders.
I spray it on and leave it for a couple of minutes to seep and dislodge soot and grime.then i wash it off using a hose and sponge filled with detergent water
Gliptone degreaser is the best store bought degreaser I have used. It has removed anything I have ever tried to use it on. I dont generally clean engine bays but this is what the product was designed for so 5 bucks is worth it.
Which of these cleaners would be good to not harm a painted valve cover?
simple green is ok, i think all of them would be ok becuase engine paint is strong, and your engine bay is painted and these cleaners wont strip that so just be carefull and you should be ok ....its degreaser not zip strip lol

whenever u say you spray it with a hose.. do you mean you just get the hose and run it over everything as if u were washing the outside of your car?
i dont get that, wouldnt ruin something?
