why do you want the shine off?
whatever you do, don't use armoral's tire cleaning foam.. because it sucks.

you could also try using warm water and a bit of Dawn or other dishwaching soap.

Wesley's Bleach-White whitewall cleaner is effective on the crud buildup and getting rid of shine (even if you don't have whitewalls). Spray it on and work it in with a hand brush or floor brush with stiff bristles, then hose it off.

Gliptone's Emerald Green Degreaser...it is green and it is incredibly cncentrated...I am yet to find a foriegn particle that it cannot remove. Use with caution and wash it off for at least 5 minutes. I guarentee it will take all that crap off your tyres. It removes tar like it was normal road dirt.

They make a wide variety of very, very potent products
