Who do you use to ship from the USA?

One Simple Question!

Which company is the best to use when shipping stuff from the USA to Canada. I was told that one company, I think UPS charges you with a huge brokage fee.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok here we go....

fedex/ups/dhl all three companies are good.... when you ship something international you are only going to get charged 1 flat fee,,, they don't charge brokerage fee's... they do however bill duties and taxes... witch is a small percent of the total value of the shipment...

Duties & taxes can also be billed to the recipient it depends on the terms agreed upon buy the buyer and seller...

If the shipment is big and weighs allot it is worth it to go through a freight forwarder in your area... because all couriers charge a arm and a leg when the weight goes over 50 to 60 lbs....unless you find a company that has great rates with FedEx/Ups/Dhl.....

Thanks,
Rob

How close are you to the border? On some things you can save $ by using a mail drop in the US and picking it up yourself. There are a few companies in border towns that do this for $3-5 to have stuff shipped to them so you can pick it up. Then you save on shipping & customs fees (you are suppposed to be charged on the total value of goods, including shipping). It may be worth an hour drive each way to do this.

I only know of places South of Ottawa, but here's a start for the Niagara Falls area:

Mailboxes Etc.
1623 MILITARY RD
NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304-1745
(716) 298-4461

They probably have recieving services, being so close to the border but I don't know what their prices are.

Keep in mind, if you go in person to pick up you do not have to pay brokerage fees on any parts you are importing for personal use. You would only need a broker when you import a whole car.
