SE-R seller targeted by scamming African buffoons

Hi All,

I registered just to post something funny that happened to me today, a few weeks after I posted a classified ad on SE-R.net for my '91 SE-R. I assume that this might be the wrong place for my post, but I looked around and couldn't fine one that looked more suitable.

If you've ever gotten one of those emails trying to sucker you into the Nigerian internet scam , then this sort of thing will probably be familiar to you.

Here's the email I received this morning:

I will be waiting for your full information so that the cashier's check can get to you by next week and also tha my shipper can come for the pick up at your house as soon as payment is wired to him.
Dr Thomas.
Wow, an offer of $3000 above my asking price!! Here is the response I sent an hour later:

Dear Dr. Thomas,

Thank you for your interest in my Nissan Sentra, which you may know in your country as the Nissan "Sunny". I am very interested in doing business with you! Here is a current photo:

Unfortunately, I have discussed this sale with my wife and she is discouraging me from sending our beloved automobile to Ghana. Allow me to explain. You see, her father used to have a successful import/export business and he dealt extensively with a gentleman from Ghana named Dr. Alain Douin. In the late 1990's, her father entered into a business transaction with Douin for transportation of a large quantity of shea nuts that were to be sold at a great profit to a French cosmetic firm. At the time, Douin owned a large shipping business that ferried cargo up and down the Volta river. My father-in-law paid Douin in advance to have the shea nuts transported from the Ghanean interior to a French cargo ship waiting in port at the Gulf of Guinea. Instead of holding up his end of the bargain in a gentlemanly fashion, the scoundrel Douin absconded with the precious cargo and was last seen living in the lap of luxury with a bevy of buxom babes in Cote d'Ivoire! My father-in-law was left penniless, and my wife (then my fiance) was left with no dowry for her marriage to me.

By way of a solution, I would suggest that we make arrangements for this purchase through an acquaintance of mine in Burkina Faso. That way, I can avoid the unpleasantness of further discussions with my wife regarding Ghana. To paraphrase the poet, "Hell hath no fury like a woman whose father was ripped off by a thieving Ghanean sonofabitch."

Which city in the beautiful Republic of Ghana are you living in? Perhaps it is within traveling distance of Burkina Faso? If you can provide me with your full name, address and phone number, I will contact my acquaintance to inquire as to whether or not he is willing to broker this business transaction.

Looking forward to your reply, I respectfully remain,

Major Frank "Rex" Road (retired)
