ok i planning on doing this swap outa my 2004 nissan sentra 1.8L ive went to a couple of places, trying to get quotes on how much it will cost for the swap, tranny, ecu, axels, ect... one of the shops down over in ontario,ca
swore up and down that if i get caught with this engine in my car they will tow it, and keep it.. no questions asked.
So i went back and asked the engine shop i was going to get the engine from if they have heard anything.. and they said NOPE never heard that before.. i think there lying to me so i can just shut up and buy the engine from them.... well any help or information will do..
if this thread is stupid, dumb or in the wrong place just delete it.
that, and i would stop referring to engines by the color of the valve cover.
red top and black top are generally terms used for the RWD s13 and s14 engines.
you want a fwd engine, like a bluebird, avenir, or gtir. I'd suggest getting into the habit of calling the engine by it's donor car and not the valve cover color.
last i checked, if you have a motor in your car that is not designated to be in the specific car, they impound that mofo.
The Smog Nazis love that shit in Cali! I think you can only swap a motor from a car of the same year or generation that was sold in US. Check with the DMV, not the local grease monkey who wouldn't know what to do with it, if you gave it to him.

ok update* i found out as long as you have a reciept and the numbers match the engine block to the reciept and you can PASS SMOG your cool.. put thats where they usually get you.. if you cant pass smog than you have to change the engine.. but as most of you know there are always ways around that... its gunna cost about 400 500$ but hey its worth having to change the whole engine out...
it's called visual. You won't pass visual with a non-stock engine (i.e. a different engine than the one that came in the car stock) OR for that matter, a turbo engine.
good luck passing smog lmao.
btw, you have any idea how much this swap is gonna cost you? You might as well sell the car and take it up the ass right now. You're looking at 6-9k to have it all said and done.....and done RIGHT. not just done.
