Is the clutch in the 2001 SE's notorious for being crap?
Today I shifted hard, and the clutch started slipping BIG time!! Are these clutchs known to suck?? What clutch could I get to stop slippage. How muc would a full install cost including the clutch, labor and all?
mine's been doing the same thing for the last 20k miles....still holding up fine
It's very intermittent, most days it's perfect, sometimes it will slip bad on a hard shift. After 3-4 runs at the track it's pretty much gone, by the time I'm driving home it's fine again. It's annoying but it's still holding up
I've got about 42K miles on the car. It will slip BAD! When I shift hard enough and slam that gas pedal to the medal the engine will just rev at an RPM but the car will not move. When I first got the car (it had 36K miles on it) I would shift and could chirp the tires on good hard shifts. Now the clutch is getting worse and worse it seems. This sucks! I'm used to shifting a nice stiff 5.0 mustang clutch that'll never slip! I like the Sentra, but I'm EXTREMELY disappointed with the clutch.
Word... if you wanna keep doing that you might as well get an aftermarket one put in that can deal with it... I don't suspect the cost would be too huge unless you're paying someone else to do it...

Well, I'm not doin burnouts and crazy dumps from the line, I simply like to shift a bit harder sometimes to get the car goin. I realize that this clutch is not a performance clutch, but I definentaly thought it would be able to handle atleast some hard shifting....guess not. I wanna do a performance clutch eventually and a short throw shifter, this shifter is REALLY sloppy! I don't think I'd do the clutch swap out myself though, don't have the time (I did my mustang clutch but that was also not a front wheel drive)...how hard is the clutch install if I wanted to do it myself?

LOL try shifting hard like that in a Cobra mustang. That clutch ALWAYS goes after 10 hard launches. My friend has had 2 clutches in 40,000 miles in his cobra. BTW he drag races about 1 time every 2 months.

If you want a short throw shifter you could DIY. Just get a hacksaw and saw away right under the shift nob. It will make the car much easier to shift fast and will make it A LOT notchier. I have 4 sentras and all of them have this method because i like the results so much.

How does this actually lessen the throws? I think this is more of a looks mod than a performance mod. The true way to make your shifter short throw is to shorten the length from where the rod connects to the shifter to the transmission. By cutting the top of the shifter, you're not making the throws shorter.
