I keep reading about the knock sensor and balance shaft, and how there are pro's and con's to each i want to know if the 2.0 or 1.8 has the same problems or if it dosent what problems does it have? cause i will add headers exauhst and a CAI and i want to know what everybody thinks thanks alot..

Researching a VIN number for an Altima

HI,

I'm new to this, so forgive me if I not replying to your topic, but I need some help.

How can I get a Carfax report on a VIN Number for a used Nissan Altima that I'm interested in purchasing?

http://carfax.com/

Btw, this is the engine forum for the QR25DE powered Nissan Sentra. We have an Altima section too, both for engine and chasis questions. This specefic question would be best put in the general section.

And if you did look in the general, you would have seen this thread called NEEA CARFAX

As a start, our cars have a header, not headers
And it all depends on what you want. The best candidate for the most power through forced induction is the SR20 powered 00-01 SE. Everything you want to know has already been discussed numerous times. This specefic topic doesnt belong in the QR section because it doesnt ask any question directly about the QR. This would be much better off in the B15 Chasis section. If you cant find specefic answers, dont hesitate to post a thread but be sure it is posted in the proper category.

You must ask yourself what are your goals for your B15. If you want something out of the box that is a great platform to start, get a Spec V, '03 used is nice with low miles. The 2.0 is the SR20DE, which is a venerable motor that has withstood the test of time here in the states till 2001 in the B15, not sure about G20 platform. If you could score a 2000-2001 B15 SE(2.0, SR20DE) for a good price, that would be ideal because there's tons you can do with that car. The 1.8 is the QG18DE, which was built with economy in mind, great gas mileage and to be a super daily driver. Figure out how much money you really want to spend and the let us know what you really want to do. You should start considering that before you start thinking of knock sensor/balance shaft mods.

Thats excellent advice...and I might as well add, if you are looking at a Spec V or a B15 SE-R, the need PREMIUM GASOLINE...so if running costs are an issue, then a Spec may not be your top pic.

-Don't worry about these right now. The issue with the knock sensors has gone away with the 2004-up Sentras, and the BS are easly removed with only a $70 kit and a liitle work. As stated, ask yourself what you want with this car first.
