"Shorter" Shifter

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to make their shifter shorter, meaning not as tall. Is there a way to do this?

why not just buy a short shifter instead of messing with your factory one?

I've heard of VW guys doing it but I'm not very familiar with it.

I was wondering about that but the ones that I have seen do not give the dimensions. I would like to have it about 3 inches shorter. Are there knobs out there that will accomplish this?

Just buy a new short shifter...it's not worth messing with the stock one...messing up...then not being able to drive the car until a new shifter comes in...so yeah...I wouldn't if I were you...but I'm not you...so do as you please

3" shorter? damn man. that's a bit excessive imo.

and you'd be surprised what getting a new shift knob can do...that clunky stock knob.

I was just taking a guess at the measurement. Of the alternative knobs available which would be recommended? I realize that it really comes down to personal taste but I would like some ideas, as well as places to order from.
