Potential SER owner questions

Hi Ive been looking around on this board for a while, cause I am interested in buying an Sentra in the upcoming month or so. Ive owned a ford probe for the last four years, so I dont know much about nissans at all. So I have some qustions about this car.
I am looking at a 2002 or 03 SER.
So what is the real differnce between as plain SER and a spec v?, I dont mean hp numbers, I know the spec has more power but what is it . Somthing simple I could replace in an SER? or is the extra hp created internaly with more agressive cams or higher comprestion?
Aside from little electrical bugs are there any big reliability probs I should look out for on these cars? sycros? clutch? A/C?
Any tips or info will be apreciated

Try the search button, every question you asked has been answered at least twice.

1) the '02 has far more bugs than the '03
2) the spec v has a diffrent suspension, interior, and transmision than the SE-R, but the engines are identical
3) the '02 had tranny problems (spec v that is), and a few other bugs. The '04 got the majority of the fixes, but an '03 is a safer bet than an '02
4)break in was the key to these cars, there are several of us older (and by older i mean 20-somethings) that understand breaking in new cars. We all have NO issues with our early build '02's which were the biggest problem cars. For this reason I would highly advise looking carefully before buying. I would lean towards the '03 since the new tranny and most of the consumption porblems were fixed on those models.

Again, use the search button before you ask questions, all these have been coverd before.

I broke my car in properly and I'm 19

I think the 10 ponies difference is from ECU timing. Many people say exhaust but I believe that is incorrect. I would buy a new car. You're inheriting other people's problems and many people decide to floor these cars and abuse them. While I think the 02-03 looks better, chances are the majority have been abused and are not worth buying used. The 04-05 seem to be more reliable and have a display of your gas mileage, running temp and other things.

Blackout when you say tranny problems do you mean the 1st and 2nd gear ratio thing, cause that does not bother me, or do you mean actual metal parts breaking?
I under stand that the break in is important on all new cars, but is there a casting problem the 2.5's have that makes the break in so important or what. Have people had to rebuild there engines early due to inproper rebuild? Could a compersion test be a good way to test for problems in that area?
I know what you guys are saying about just buying a new car but college is expensive, and Im kinda tired of my probe. But it still runs so I can look around.

ehh, it is a few grand difference between a used Spec and a new Spec...it is worth the extra pay. if your on a tight budget though, one thing you have to keep in mind is the car does need high octane gas (preferably 91+) which may not suit your budget.

if you can get a 5speed SE-R, get it. I like the gearing on that tranny a lot better than the 6speed, and it's actually better for drag.....
