the past couple days i have noticed that my clutch is letting off right near the top. it feels like i have no pressure when i push in the clutch. is the clutch going out already? i only have 15k on the car. i wouldnt think that the clutch is goin bad already. someone please help. should i replace the clutch b4 it goes?
I hate these clutches.....mine's been doing that since I got it at 15k
It also occasionally slips, when really running up through the gears, sometimes I'll put it in gear, then drop the clutch and hit the gas at the same time (just shifting fast, you know) and the rpm just doesn't drop at all, it just hangs out where it was when I shifted out of gear and it waits there until the car actually accelerates to that speed and then the rpm starts rising with the speed like normal.
It's stupid...I've thought my clutch was on the verge of going out since 20k, I now have almost 50k and it's still the same shit. Some days it grips hard, some days it feels soft, and if I race it at the track, after 2-3 runs it starts slipping horribly.
I bought my '02 Sentra only a week ago.. so haven't really checked into B15 yet, but...
On motorcycles, it's easy to adjust clutch play and engagement point from the handlebar.. to a certain point until the clutch is really worn out.
I'm curious if a Sentra shop manual would show a way to adjust clutch engagement from the pedal, at the clutch master cylinder, or at the tranny somehow? There must be a way.
On home-modded motorcycles, many riders simply went to higher rate Clutch Springs; these were cheap, on the order of $13-$25 + cost of tranny gaskets. The stock clutch could handle the extra horses, it just needed aftermarket (ie Barnett) clutch springs to keep up with the engine during high-rpm shifting.
Replacing (car) clutches ain't fun! Takes 2 strong guys and like 3 jacks! I helped my neighbor replace the worn clutch on a '90-something Tercel and took us ~6 hours!; @ around 70K miles, driven conservatively. My bro's '96 Civic EX needed a new clutch at about 60K miles (shop charged him $300 to replace clutch). I've owned turbocharged '89 Pontiac Sunbird 2.0L and '91 Chev Cavalier 3.1L V6... both were driven Hard and needed new clutches at ~40K miles. I did those myself along with a buddy that worked for beer.
Only 15K miles... hmm.. have you checked the clutch fluid reservoir? (near the brake master cylinder on firewall, driver's side). Maybe bleeding it would help?
err.. has anyone looked into the CenterForce clutches for our cars? I dunno what they co$t, but they're supposed to be pretty bullet-proof.
Anyhow, g'luck and let us know how it goes.

Hehe, throw it in 6th @ a low rpm and floor it... if the rpms go up like your in 2nd, get a new clutch. I totally suggest getting the JWT combo, I love it.

even if it is just the way the car "feels" or is, how am i supposed to know when its ready to go? unless i just let it go

Haha, that's a good way to check too.
I knew it was time for a new clutch on one of my old cars when I parked it on an incline, put the shifter in 1st gear... and the car started to slide down the hill by itself.
