I've got about 300 miles on my specv and the tranny was very smooth when I first picked it up. Over the last couple days, 1st and 2nd have been getting increasingly more difficult to get into. I'm also starting to get more noise from the shifter going into second. Feels like it's actually catching on something going into second. Is this normal? Can I expect this to smooth out again after I get some more miles on it?
Ya, they say thats normal. I really hate it too. The same thing happend to me, a week or two after i bought it, it started happening. But i found that if i rev it to about 3,500 before shifting and press in the clutch slower and with a more smooth action it doenst make the noise aka "clunk" But ya its supposed to be "normal" and it helps the car go into gear better, but when its not warmed up at all i usually shift from 1 to 3rd cuz it almost clunks everytime until its been drivin 10-15 minutes.
I actually got a little grinding from 2nd this afternoon. I'm sure it wasn't the clutch. For the last couple days I've been very conscious about getting the clutch to the floor when going into 2nd. I haven't been able to get anything but a voicemail box from the service dept where I bought it.
i have about 310 miles on my spec V and i dont personally feel that it is hard to get into gear, though 2nd does feel a little harder then it should sometimes. i just take it easy b/c yes, the car only has 310 miles on it. only once in a blue moon will the car be extrememly hard to get into second, sometimes it wont go in at all if i have the clutch in and am slowing down to a red light and i go from like 4th or 3rd into second to engince brake a little bit, so, i just wait for the car to stop completely then it will slip into 2nd like a hot knife through butter.
also, what do you guys think about using synthetic transmission fluid or or synthetic engine oil? i came from using a late 80's car so that stuff was very frowned upon with my old car. but will it help out my new car if i start using it right away?
Ya, i put in Redline synthetic tranny fluid at like 8000 miles. It takes a while to totally feel the difference, but it is much smoother now, especially when im winding out third and fourth to about 5k. But i was told that it will wear in even more, after a couple more thousand miles it really wears in or something like that. Someone correct me if im wrong.
see, that is something that i'd like to get in the habit of doing, maybe i'll tell the stealership to not do a tranny fluid or oil change when i bring it in for its first checkup.

Isn't that pretty much all their going to do really for the first checkup? You could tell them to put synthetic in instead of dyno oil? By then you'll be past break in.
Personally I use dyno oil and change it every 3500. If this car is like my others, I'll have other problems with it at 130,000 miles other than the engine wearing out.
