My 02 Sentra is choking

I have an 02 GXE and it has started choking. There is no noticeable pattern. I have looked at rps or under load, nothing. I'd change the fuel filter but it is under the fuel tank. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you fix it? oh the car has 40,000 mi

please describe the actions...what the car does, when it does it......what happened, etc, and I'll do my best to diagnose it
