car and drivers article- serial thrillers May2003

have you read this any of you?

in a test between 4 cars the spec came in 4th. they say these things about the car...

Highs: plenty of low and midrange torque with no waiting, limited slip plumbs it to pavement, enough chassis poise for good lap times

lows: labored steering that needs grease, moaning tires, shifter could use a map and directions

verdict: you never forget that its a cheap car with a big motor

my point: that this is good that nissans car came in last and it can maybe wake nissan up a little to provide some boost or something more exciting to the market.

as long as I can beat a civic I'm cool.... that's what 95% of the cars around here are anyway.... I don't need to beat the $25k + cars..... as long as I can give them a run for their money...which I can ofcourse, for $16,500..... I am still putting my car together... So far I have my CAI, JWT balancer shaft kit installed(I dunno how my vehicle modification challenged self did it....and I only stripped one bolt that goes to the oil pan!! me working on cars isnt a good thing.) unorthodox pulley(I didn't notice a difference ;( ), hotshot header, and soon to be exhaust as soon as I hear a good sounding one on a spec, I want a nice smooth one to go along with the intake.. what my mods are after that I dunno... but my only goal in life is to beat an S2000 with my spec, think it's possible without turbo??

Possibly, JWT is coming out with ecu, cams, pistons, and rods. Should be close with some of that stuff...

whats soo big about an S2000

I dont believe in that car and driver timed 0-60 crap. I will tell you that the S2000 is a real slow snail under 4000 rpm and I don't think he will be launching that at any street lights. If you can run that spec like its meant to be driven, then that S2000 will be scratchin his head!!! thats my .02 cents. I feel that an CAI, Header, and a few other lil goodies will take that honda for what its worth.
I also laughed at how C&D said it was a cheap car with a big engine. Ummm, thats what counts and nissan reliability. Mazda is under Ford so I would steer clear of them, Focus is a recall nightmare, and Neon, give me a break. The doors will be rusting off of it in 3 years, the head gasket will prolly have been replaced several times and knowing dodge quality I dont think it will be worth much. Look at another concept, you do all the bolt-ons to the spec, it's just about laying the same hp down as the neon and so what if you come up a few short, chances are the driver next to you is inexperienced so take them to school!!!!! C&D is overrated and if you read the "*" its based on opinions cause 14mpg to me doesnt compare to the 29 I get around town!!

I've heard from my friend that if u droop 5 grand into both the spec-v and si, the si will smoke the civic....is this true, are specs really that much slower compared to other cars in it's class? I love the specs personally, the friend that told me that never drove a spec, only sticks wit hondas, so maybe he dunno wat hes talkin about....but can anybody prove him wrong about the 5 grand into spec and civic thing?

it's like 10 threads below this one, http://www.nissanforums.com/showthre...5&pagenumber=1

There's no telling how the cars will compare when you drop 5g's into each of them. Saying something like that has absolutely no base on reality, know why? Because there isn't anyone who has dumped $5k into performance alone, so there's no telling what would come of it. Once you go turbo, it's not really about how many more mods you can get, it's about the strength of the motor and how well it will hold. I don't know how much either engine can hold so I won't comment on that, but if you were to dump $5k into an 00-01 SE it would run 12's.

Maybe it just that they have more available mods right now, but stock for stock a Spec is faster than an Si.

At the track I raced a guy in 00 Si w/ i/h/e, I think he could do better but he pulled a 15.8 @ 88 while I hit 15.3@90

Cornut,
I have the prototype MagnaFlow cat-back, and I think it sounds really nice. Still a month or so away from being released, but it will be worth the wait!
