I am far from new to the Nissan scene. I have owned a Nissan 300zx and researched into buying a 240sx(SR powered). So I know not to ask too many newb questions about the car. (I know what the search button is for)
Anyway I live in N Texas and a couple of weeks ago we had a bad hail storm. I went to the local dealer to see if they had any deals(my cuz is a salesman there). My wife and i ended up getting an 02 Silver Spec V w/ red & black interior. It has some hail damage that the dealer is fixing in a few days at no charge.
So I've research the Spev and found a couple things about it that I wanted to run by you guys to make sure they're true
CAI will increase whp by about 10 hp an 10 ft/lbs but I better have a few MAF sensors handy
Headers will add 15 whp and 12 ft/lbs. but the knock sensor is going to have to be relocated
We can't boost the enginge because of weak internals and weak intake
I'm not planning on doing anything to it right now except for I/H/E and pulleys. I figure if all that is done maybe about 30-35 hp is gained?
Also I am looking for a full cat back exhaust w/o the classic fart can look. My 300 zx had a 1200 dollar SS full cat back that made the car sound mean, but didn't didn't look bad....I kind of want one that looks similar to stock...any suggestions?
I don't plan on doing anything that'll void the warranty, so cams, chips, internals, and nitrous is out of question.
Oh yeah, i'll be searching some about suspension setups so i can lower my little dimpled baby.
Well the intake and header probably won't add that much, I'd say more like 7 and 10 respectively. There are several exhausts, the Stromung probably looks closest to stock, very high quality, excelent sound, but it costs a pretty penny as well (600 or so). Other exhausts include the Mossy, Thermal, Greddy, VRS, etc. You should go for 2.5" as it has the best gains. There are tons of suspension choices, as far as coilovers go we have JIC and Tein, then theres the Ground Control and Skunk2 coilovers (they don't have dampers though, just the adjustable spring), then we have the Progress, Eibach Pro-kit, Sprint, etc, etc, etc. Way too many spring choices, each with their benefits and drawbacks, and unfortunately there aren't any aftermarket damper choices, but a few companies are making them.
Oh yeah, congrats on the new car!
Where do you live in N Texas? My home is in Bedford, but I'm down in San Antonio for college right now.
Yeah I'm in Midland, Congrads on the purchase!! And I'm just going to wait for Nissan Motorsports parts. Might be a while and be expensive but they will be worth it since i have the 100,000/5 yr warrenty.
Those seem like the two parts that add the most hp.
Also Stillen has a race pipe they sell w/ their headers...anyone know where to get the pipe by itself?
I've checked out the Stromung..is it full catback or only exhaust?
Thanks for all replies...
-edit-
By the way I got the 7 year 100k miles warrany ;-)
0 dollar deductible and fully refundable if I never use it!
nice dynos, I'm still a bit skeptical unless they were done on the same day, but that's just me, I'm really anal that way
I've never heard of a stillen race pipe, but if you get a header and a full cat-back the only part of the exhaust that is still the same as stock is the 2nd cat, which you could always replace with a hi-flo if you wanted to. The Stromung is a full stainless catback
Hey speed I work at the paint dpt at the Lowe's there in Allen...name's Daniel...look me up!
U know of any local shops that cut good deals on installs? My friend recommended me a shop call Racing Soul on corner of Spring Creek and Alma. U ever heard of it. What are teh details of the DNE meet?
Damn I'll have to roll through Lowes, buy they closed that Racing Soul place. There is another shop on 15th and Custer though. I'll have to find there card for u.
But this upcoming weekend for DNE meet here is the thread.
I don't know if i can get off work this weekend so I probably won't be able to come....maybe the next meet. So what is the deal w/ relocating the knock sensor? Is it too sensitive? Are they going to come out with some type of C-VTC controller?
Thanks
