How far have others on these forums driven their '02 Spec-V's (or non Spec) to date? Any major problems with maintenance or engines falling apart?
I picked mine up Dec. 2001, and as of this week will be bringing it in for my 30,000K tune-up. No problems with it at all, though I do bring the 'ol girl in for every oil change, rotate tires, don't drive like a dick, etc. This car has taken me to Virgina Beach, Cleveland, and most everything inbetween.
10,700+ no probs, i cange my own oil every 3k... also my gas milage has been way better than what i've been reading on the boards. I'm a computer nerd so here is my spreadsheet with gas milage from day one (wont show it all, MPG's only)
I think the only real issue has been with the transmission. I'm not sure the problem isn't "abuse" related. People have reported shift related problems and grinding and have had the transmission replaced in some instances. I have had no problem but only have about 1.2K miles on my '02 so far... Since I don't race around, I have high hopes this will not be an issue for me.

In regards to MPG, I've achieved almost 400 on a full tank; granted, that's riding in 6th gear and cruise for the entire distance about about 2500 rpms. With a 12 gallon tank, that's about 30 MPG, which is insane for a car of this type.
But the thinner air means less wind resistance as well, so it's a trade off. Personally I range between 27-32mpg, 27 when I'm driving around town like it's a huge auto-x track, and 32 when its all highway.
I just filled up yesterday. 28.5 mpg for mixed city and highway. I have a little over 23,000 on my car and have absolutely no problems. Its an 02 Spec i bought in June 2002 and build date of 5/02.

i got mine in october of 2002 and ive got 3,000 miles on it...i get alittle worse milelage because i dive all my miles in the city where i get screwed with rush hour traffic. but i still manage 24-27 mpg. tell me, do you guys use 93 octane gas? or just 87? and how many of you guys use octane boost?
....and you guys can't tell the difference between the ratings? i mean in milelage and in performance?.....wait....i think i'll start another trend.
What are you saying? I know the difference. Mileage-wise, there is no difference. I still consume just as much with 87 or 93. I'll test that out more this summer to make sure.
Performance-wise, I get no knocking of the engine if I put in ghetto 87, so there's no loss of power whether 91 gets put in or not.
Actually the spec has a knock sensor, so if it detects knock it will retard timing to keep it from happening. If your timing is retarded because of this you will have less power and get worse mileage. I think 89 is the best choice for the b15's, but I use 93 because of my advanced timing.
bought my car Feb '02 have 43,000 miles on it and I am a moron so I drive it hard. Despite the fact that I am a moron I still achieve avg of 23-24 mpg mostly highway though. When driving right I have gotten 31mpg. p.s. have driven hard from the day i got it and have had no problems but my 3rd gear synchros
