I blew the front right tire on my new Spec V last week. I replaced it with a $100 kuhmo and now the car pulls a little left during acceleration.. what does this mean?
Things to consider:
The alignment's fine, car goes dead straight while not accelerating and the other front stock tire has 2000 miles on it. Is it like this because of different tread? If the cars pulls to the left, which tire is stickier? Is this bad for the car?
I guess I'll use my first post to respond to your first post...you asked:
"...and now the car pulls a little left during acceleration.. what does this mean?"
Put the front end on a jack and carefully tape-measure the full circumference around the middle of the tread of each tire. You'll likely find a difference between the two, and yeah, it's bad for a FWD car. That means the two tires rotate at two slightly different speeds. Stick the odd tire on the back and your problem is gone.
As a follow up, your problem is easy compared to that faced by drivers of modern all-wheel-drive cars. When a tire needs replaced, the common recomendation is to replace all four together, as one odd tire spinning along will frag the computer torque distribution system. Some major tire retailers will no longer expose themselves to potential liability and won't install just one tire on an AWD car. Makes your single tire replacement seem nice and cheap, no?
ummm are you accelerating hard? if so...its torque steer. if you didnt have it before, its the tread pattern/tire compound/grip. Kumhos kinda suck so....they most likely dont have as much grip as ContiSport Contacts which are OEM tires for Porches!!........i dont think you'd be dumb enough to get different sized tires so that shouldnt be a problem. and yeah..... very dumb and stupid to only replace one tire with a different kind ( i dont mean to offend anyone but its true). it'll cause some damage and premature wear/strain on your suspension and bushings...not to mention your chassis. why didnt you replace it with the OEM tires???????????????
It just puts a little added stress on your drive train...CV joints, etc. Your Limited Slip system may negate any real harm, and 400 miles isn't a big chunk of a CV joint's expected life span anyway.
he's gonna be driving with it for more than 400 miles........it aint no spare tire...he has one of those......its a replacementand its gonna cause damage to his car cuz hes gonna use it for a long, long, timenot to mention it looks ghetto as hell and will get laughed at .....atleast i think so....and please!!!!!....its a specV ...it deserves better!!!!!
it's a little thing called MONEY fella's. I know I should have replaced more than just one.. I was away from home, had to get home, and could only afford one tire and the kumho happened to be the cheapest.. I guess I'm gonna try and get another one soon. If I do get another kumho like the other one, would it be better to put the two contiSport's up front or the kumho's?
and as a side note.. it doesn't look ghetto, it's the same size and looks exactly like the OEM's..
Even slight differences in tires can cause things like that to occur. Differences in the rounding of the edges of the tread can also contribute to that type of behavior. Why don't you switch the new tire to the back where it will have less impact...

I'd have to disagree with that. I replaced my ContiSports with Kumhos and find that the Kumhos have way better grip on wet and dry pavement.
