Of course he would say that, especially if he was pulling ideas out of his ass. Did he/she happen to mention a diagnostic code or whether or not he used a code scanner of any type to come to that conclusion?

Only about 10,000 or more other reasons... But most won't limit your engine rpm's or necessarily cause the engine to act up negatively.

Why
WOULD cleaning the sensor work? If a wire broke internally, why would cleaning that broken wire clear the malfunction? If I smashed the MAF into tiny bits with a sledgehammer, would cleaning the MAF sensor bits and pieces make it work again? Sure, cleaning the MAF has worked for some people (including me), some of the time, but it's not a 100% 'be all end all' solution every time...
